PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Isn’t it great when…..we have such a great response from our community to our open night? Last
night we had many families enjoying ‘code cracking’ activities in various classrooms and getting their
passports stamped. Apparently some of these codes also challenged our parents!

In the art room, we had our Visual Arts captains running the show. Their activity was collating a
family cultural puzzle. They explained to people what they had to do and then they collected the pieces
and arranged them together into a puzzle. Alex really enjoyed having the responsibility of being in
charge and making sure that everything ran smoothly. Sam enjoyed watching everyone have fun
making their people and then putting all the pieces of the puzzle together. As Visual Arts captains they
assist Mrs Locke and Ms Maine in a variety of ways, including presenting the art award at assembly
and every second Monday they run the Arts Club.
A night like this doesn’t just happen – many people are involved to ensure its success. Our fantastic
FOM team did a great job cooking sausages out in the cold and wet weather to provide you all with
some food. Chris Davies, Matt Payne, Gemma McCormick and our staff planned this event over the
past 2 weeks in my absence and I am most grateful for their efforts. I would also like to acknowledge
the great job they did in running the school in both my and Andrew’s absences.
CAMPS, SPORTS AND EXCURSIONS FUND
This week the Victorian government announced $148.3 million over four years for the Camps, Sports
and Excursions Fund to ensure all eligible students are able to participate in school trips and sporting
activities. Families holding a valid means-tested concession card will be eligible to apply. A special
consideration category will also exist.
Eligible families will need to apply for the CSEF through the school. A payment of $125 for primary
school students will be paid directly to the school to be used towards camps, sports and excursion costs
for the benefit of the student. We will be sending home further information about this very soon.

Assistant Principal
ISN’T IT GREAT WHEN…students are proud of their learning achievements and improvement in
understanding their classroom work. Over the past two weeks I’ve been fortunate to have many
students share their work with me.
Elijah from Prep read his weekend recount to me and the picture shows him successfully matching
digits to number words in mathematics. Terrific achievements, Elijah.
Jayden, Charli, Indiana and Brayden in grade two also had math work to share. They cut out
shopping items and used coins or notes to then show the correct amount. All the items were then
tallied to show the sum of their shopping. I was most impressed when Indiana explained the
change received from twenty and fifty dollars.
From grade six, Holly presented her letter from Gallipoli and Mackenzie showed her homework task
based on her family history. For the letter, Holly had to write small and make the letter seem like
she was a soldier at Gallipoli writing home. Mackenzie traced her family back to convicts who were
sent to Launceston, Tasmania in 1838. The photos in the top corners of her work, were taken at the
same place but nearly 90 years apart. Some exciting learning in grade six!
Breakfast
Club
Unfortunately, we are unable to offer Breakfast Club in June. We are currently
evaluating Breakfast Club in terms of student numbers, staffing and costing to
determine the future of this program. Over the past 18 months we have supported
many students ensuring they have a suitable breakfast to fuel their minds and bodies
for the day ahead. We hope to be able to continue Breakfast Club in Term 3 and will
keep you informed.
Chid Safety – walking/riding to and from school
Please remind your children about using the school crossings, as Josephine Avenue and Maramba
Drive are very busy and dangerous roads to cross. Please use this time to also
discuss safety if a strange car follows or asks a child to get in.
Students riding bikes, scooters or skateboards must wear a helmet.
Notices
If you require extra copies of notices, remember they can be found and printed from
the school website. Money returned after the due date will not be accepted.

Parents and students who walk (or ride or scoot) to school will earn 10 points each for their house
and receive a sticker. This event will replace Walking Wednesday for that week.

Prep Mother ’s Day
Pampering Afternoon
On Friday the 8th of May the Preps held a special afternoon dedicated to pampering
our special Mums for Mother’s Day. The Mums were treated to manicures, had their
make-up done, their hair styled and ate delicious cupcakes baked by the Preps! They
left the classroom looking relaxed and very glamourous! The Preps had a fantastic
afternoon doing something special for their wonderful Mums .
Malachi and Mum, Editha.
Caeley and Mum, Lindsey.
Louis and Mum, Lisa.
District Cross Country
Congratulations to the children below who competed at the District Cross Country on
Tuesday 19th May. Running in very wet conditions our children should be very pleased
with their efforts. They challenged themselves against the best runners from the eight
schools that comprise the Edwin Flack School Sports Association. Our students have been
committed to their training throughout this term and have made significant improvements
which led to strong performances on the day. Well done to everyone concerned and good
luck to our students who progress to the Divisional level on Monday of next week.
