SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS
It is the misssion of the Capac Community School District to
prepare all of our students to be life-long learners, educating
them for success in the 21st century
About the District
Capac is a village of about 2,000 residents located on the western edge of St Clair
County, approximately forty-five miles north of Detroit. The community is steadily
changing from an agricultural community with a thriving downtown, to a bedroom
community for the cities of Flint and Detroit. New retail businesses and manufacturing
industries have recently developed in the area, due to the proximity to Interstate I-69
and the international border.
The Capac Community Schools encompass six municipalities within its one hundred
and ten square miles. The district has enrollment of over 1,140 students, 850 of whom
are bussed each day to and from school. There are three school buildings: Capac
Elementary (Pre-K–5), Capac Middle School (6–8), and Capac Jr.–Senior High School
(9–12). The district also operates a virtual education program for students in grades 612. All schools are within walking distance of Main Street.
A strong sense of community pride enhances the effective working relationship between
the schools and the municipalities served by the district.
In many ways the schools in Capac serve as community centers. The adult and
community education program, in consortium with Lapeer ISD, offer the following: high
school completion classes, GED preparation, enrichment, and online classes. Capac
schools offer and host a variety of after school activities, weekend, and summer
programs. Our latchkey, day care, and English as second language components are
considered essential programs for many families.

Points of Community Pride
The Capac Community Schools are proud of the consistent progress being made on
several fronts throughout the district. The community of Capac has a history of
embracing the successes of the schools. Specific points of pride include:












Strong community support for new school facilities and school activities.
A dedicated teaching faculty who is focused on the success of children.
A strong offering of athletic programs lead by dedicated coaches.
Community sponsored little league baseball facilities, developed with local
recreation millage support. This is truly a unique relationship between the
schools and the members of the community.
Support personnel who regularly display district loyalty and commitment.
Parents who continually take lead roles in providing additional club opportunities
for children. The activities take place after school, weekends, and vacations.
Well-organized community outreach activities bring school support to a variety of
worthwhile causes supporting children in the area.
Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) embedded in all school levels.
Regional and State level success in the performing arts.
A robotics extra-curricular program that has had competition success at the
national level.
Capac High School offers the only Agricultural Science program in St Clair
County.
The district has a sound financial base and has improved its fund equity over the
past few years.








The district will be piloting 1 to 1 technology this fall for full implementation
beginning in January of 2016.
Capac is a community that pulls together to support community members in
times of need, a positive aspect of the small town atmosphere.
The district has a blend of experienced and new pro-active and progressive
building administrators who place a growing focus on academic rigor.
The successful High School Mock Trial program is recognized as a leader in St
Clair County.
The community has supported a building bond issue that has financed security,
technology, mechanical and electrical upgrades, new roofs, energy efficient
windows, and activity areas throughout the district.
The bond issue provided a new cafeteria/performing arts facility that was
constructed adjacent to the Junior-Senior HS and Elementary buildings.
The district has co-operative transportation agreements with Yale Public Schools
and St Clair County RESA.
Capac schools offer early childhood programming including ECSE, GSRP,
Kids-n-Kare Preschool, and Latchkey.
Selection Criteria
Capac Community Schools seeks a dynamic educational leader who is committed to
providing the best educational opportunities for young people and who possesses the
following characteristics and skills:









An effective communicator who demonstrates skills in writing, public speaking,
and listening.
An educator who has a passion of working with all learners and who can inspire
greatness from students.
An exceptional leader who is visible throughout the district and actively engaged
within the community in a variety of ways.
An individual with demonstrated knowledge of and experience with Michigan
public school finance and fiscal management (knowledge of school bond projects
desired).
A seasoned educator who has a strong background in curriculum and instruction
with the knowledge to align curriculum programs.
A leader who truly appreciates and embraces the advantages of serving in a rural
community.
A school leader who is approachable and treats everyone with respect and
dignity. One who can develop confidence in those he/she leads.
The successful candidate will be someone who is able to deal with controversy
with a productive and professional approach.
A leader who has a vision to develop a marketing plan to promote the district in a
positive manner with the goal of increasing schools of choice enrollment growth.

with employees by demonstrating honesty, integrity, and professionalism in every

Salary and Contract Information
The Board will offer a comprehensive, multi-year contract. Total salary and benefits will
be commensurate with experience of the successful candidate and requirements of the
position.

The board may make exceptions to this profile, process and/or timeline to ensure
selection of the best possible candidate. The services of Michigan Leadership Institute
have been secured to assist the Board in the search process and in the screening of
candidates. The Board of Education will make all decisions with respect to process,
evaluation of candidates, and appointment of the successful candidate. Candidates
