Introduction
Dear Pupils, Parents/Carers and Community members,
Welcome to our April newsletter. Since our last newsletter, parent/carer consultations have taken place.
It was good to see so many parents/carers attend and similarly pleasing to hear there was lots of positive
praise for the hard work and improvements of our youngsters. We all hope everyone will continue to
strive towards being nice (respectful) and being learning, growing, caring sharing individuals as well as a
school till the end of the school year and beyond.
Health and safety
UNCRC Article 19: Children should be safe from harm.
UNCRC Article 24: Every child has the right to the best possible health.
JRSO Railway information
You’ll probably be aware that the Borders Railway opens in
Midlothian on 4th Sept. 2015. Trains have not operated in
Midlothian since the 1960s and it’s been the biggest rail project
in the country for 100 years. As part of the opening weekend
celebrations, we have Family Golden Tickets for Sat. 5th Sept!
There will be 1 family (2 adults, 2 children) ticket PER
MIDLOTHIAN PRIMARY SCHOOL. The winning family will
enjoy a 2.5 hour round trip from an allocated Midlothian station.
There will entertainment on board and a great carnival
atmosphere! All passengers on the train will be Golden Tickets
winners able to ride on the train before the public!
To decide on Mayfield PS’s winner, children have been asked to design an A4 poster to promote train
travel or Midlothian. We hope to announce our winner soon!
Toilets
Can I please ask that all parents/carers speak to your child/ren re good
toilet hygiene. We have recently encountered incidents where our toilets
have been abused with hand towels put down toilets, soaked and spread
across the floors and toilets themselves not being used inappropriately.
We all want to have a clean and tidy environment to work and learn. Thank
you for your help in this matter!
School news
UNCRC Article 28: Children should be able to go to school.
P6 Bike Checks
Midlothian Council have successfully bid for funding to allow all P6 pupils to benefit from a Dr
Bike maintenance session prior to this year’s Bikeability training, to take place later in the
term. Please ensure your child brings their bike to school along with a chain to secure outside, on
Monday 27th April as all bikes must be checked and certified as roadworthy prior to taking
part in the training.
Sainsbury’s vouchers
Please note we are still collecting Sainsbury’s Vouchers for equipment in school. Please continue to send
these into school.
Parliament news
Fundraising and charities
Article 29 Education must develop every child’s personality, talents and abilities to the full.
Comic Relief
Thank you for your help in raising £139.62 which we have sent off to help disadvantaged children
Parent/Carer
UNCR Article 18: Both parents share responsibility for bringing up their child and should always
consider what is best for the child.
Parent/carer consultation questionnaires
Please return any questionnaires you may have picked up at parent consultations to school as soon as
possible for collation. Thank you!
Community events
UNCRC Article 15: Every child has the right to meet with other children and young people and to
join groups and organisations, as long as this does not stop other people from enjoying their rights.
NCHS Music Concert
Congratulations to P6 pupils: Alana, Eilidh, Rachel, Sacario,
Christopher, Kian and Lewis and P7 pupils: Emma, Abby,
Josh, Louise, Rohan, Cole, who took part in last week’s
