Background
This is an exciting opportunity to join North London’s vibrant Muslim Community and Educational Centre
which was formed in 1995 and is a registered charity organisation. Since its formation, the MCEC has
brought together Muslims of various ethnicities and has been at the forefront of Islamic education and
services. We have more recently, been increasing our services to the youth, and see this post as a serious
commitment to the focus on youth activities, This role will appeal to you if you have experience of running
youth projects, have an inspiring personality and want to join an organisation that is full of energy and
interesting opportunities.
Overall purpose of role:
To take the lead in building MCEC’s youth development function through various community and
educational activities, developing campaign strategies and plans, organising events and other campaign
activities, building partnerships and increasing MCEC’s public and media profile.
Main responsibilities:

Develop strategies, implementation plans and budgets for current and new youth activities and
campaigns, being ultimately responsible for organising and running the events, workshops, projects,
publicity opportunities etc. (Note: Youth sessions currently run every Monday evenings, alternate Friday evenings
and every Saturday. There would be the expectation that monthly workshops and trips would be introduced)

Develop strategies to engage with the youth in the community and encourage participation in MCEC
Youth Activities.

Actively recruit, manage and mentor volunteers to support delivery of projects in line with MCEC’s
policies and procedures

Actively build and maintain relationships with a variety of stakeholders including government, CBOs,
community groups, schools, mosques, scholars and individual community members

Proactively seek opportunities for funding through writing project proposals and networking with
CBOs and donors

Take the lead in developing materials (online and print) for campaigns including regular updates for
MCEC’s website, e-newsletters, blogs, leaflets, reports, briefings etc.

Develop and coordinate social media activities to increase MCEC’s profile and attract new supporters
including updating the MCEC’s Facebook page and Twitter account with regular and relevant posts.
Actively seek media coverage for campaigns and projects

Be responsible for delegated budgets, adhering to MCEC’s financial policies and procedures; establish
appropriate record keeping and expenditure monitoring.

Establish and maintain appropriate campaign / project monitoring and evaluation systems to
measure operational achievements against intended outcomes

Ensure sufficient and timely flow of management and operation information to MCEC management
according to established reporting standards

Represent MCEC externally at meetings, events and in the media in conjunction with the Centre
Director as needed

Ensure close working relationships with other MCEC staff and board members to identify potential
areas for improvement, PR and/or new funding opportunities

Any other reasonable duties commensurate with the accountabilities of the post
Essential Desirable
Qualifications Educated to degree level or equivalent OR a professional

qualification in youth work
Experience
Proven track record of working with young people

Experience of working with the Muslim community

Second language such as Arabic, Farsi, Urdu, Bengali, Somali
