Lauren comes to Mehlman Castagnetti after serving in high level positions in the Obama Administration and Congress. “Lauren is a tremendous talent who will be an excellent addition to our team,” said David Castagnetti, co-founder of the firm. “She is widely respected on both sides of the aisle and has a deep understanding of health policy and Washington, which will be an incredible asset to clients.” Most recently, Lauren was the Director of the Office of Legislation at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), where she served as the chief liaison to Congress, leading all agency interactions with Capitol Hill. As a senior political appointee, Lauren worked with senior officials within CMS, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and the White House on a variety of health policy issues including Medicare, Medicaid and the implementation of the Affordable Care Act. Previously, Lauren served as a Professional Staff Member for the Committee on Ways and Means in the U.S. House of Representatives. Notably, Lauren served in the White House as the Policy Director in the Office of Health Reform, and was a key member of the Administration’s team working to enact the Affordable Care Act. Prior to joining the White House, Lauren served as a Policy Advisor to Representative Rahm Emanuel and advised him on health policy issues while Mr. Emanuel was Democratic Caucus Chair and a Member of the House Ways and Means Committee. Earlier in her career, she worked as a Policy Analyst to Christopher Jennings at his firm, Jennings Policy Strategies. Lauren received a B.A. in political science from George Washington University.
