Seeking Patients with Degenerative Disc Disease
Seeking Patients with Degenerative Disc Disease Do you require surgical treatment for degenerative disc disease of the lower back? The Missouri Orthopaedic Institute is currently seeking participants to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of an intervertebral body device. It is designed to treat painful, single-level degenerative disc disease of the lower back. Patients most likely to benefit are those who have been unsuccessful with other treatments for 6 months. Our goal is to recruit about 100 patients across the United States. All study subjects will receive the same type of study device. In order to participate you must: •be at least 21 years old but not older than 80 •have low back pain •have symptomatic lumbar degenerative disc disease requiring single-level fusion between L2 and S1 •have received a minimum of six months of unsuccessful non-operative treatment •be willing and able to comply with study follow-up You will be excluded from the study if you have: •had a previous fusion or total disc replacement at the affected level •a diagnosis of symptomatic lumbar degenerative disc disease at more than one level •osteoporosis •recently (less than 30 days) used tobacco Please note: This is a partial list of the study entrance criteria.
