Poetry Portfolio: (total of 195 marks) Assigned on Day 1: 1) Create your own examples of poetic devices on the handout provided by Miss Blake. (7 points) Assigned on Day 2: 2) Answer the questions about “Mother to Son” and “Dear Mama” on the handout provided by Miss Blake. (20 points) 3) Find a song with at least 5 examples of poetic devices. Print out the song lyrics along with the title and artist and highlight the poetic devices in the song. Explain why the lines you highlighted are examples of poetic devices. (Remember – keep the lyrics appropriate for school!) (12 points) 4) Write a short 6-8 sentence paragraph about why you chose the song you did in part 3. Remember to include a topic sentence, supporting evidence with transitions, and conclusion. (34 points) Assigned on Day 6: 10) Create a movie poster for “The Raven.” Include title, poet, and picture of a main scene in the poem. (If you want, get even more creative with it and provide a movie slogan and actors for your poster!) (10 points) Assigned on Day 7: 11) Write an original slam poem about the topic given to you in class. You will be asked to present this poem in a “slam jam” session on the last day of the unit. (10 points + 5 points for presentation) Assigned on Day 8: 12) Write a persuasive paragraph to answer one of the two questions posed by Miss Blake. Remember that a persuasive paragraph means you must persuade the reader of why your argument is true. Include a topic sentence, supporting evidence with proper transitions, and a conclusion. (10 points) 13) Make a title page for your portfolio – you will need to put all of your work together in a duotang with a proper title page. The title page should include your name, the date, and the class period. (7 points). 14) Include your quiz response page at the end of your portfolio.
