 TENTATIVE SCHEDULE
TEACHER/ PARENT WORKSHOP SESSIONS
Thursday, March 26th
10:00am - 10:30am - Teacher/Parent Information Session by Judith Cunningham.
Whether this is your first MMUN experience or your ninth, we urge all teachers and
parents to attend this session offered at 10:00am to 10:30am. There are many parts to this
working conference, and this session will provide you with the information you need to
be the best guide to your students and children and to maximize your experience in New
York. This is also a great opportunity for you to ask questions and share resources with
each other.
10:30am -11:30am - The Importance of Global Citizenship by Jack Brewer
H.E. Jack Brewer's career as Captain of three NFL football teams was fulfilling,
challenging and exciting, but his career as an inte
rnational philanthropist, humanitarian, Goodwill Ambassador and Chair of MMUN's
Board of Advisors is even more so. In this entertaining and invigorating session you will
learn how you can help solve issues that concern you locally or globally while also
supporting your child's MMUN Global Peace Education.
03:00pm – 04:00pm - UNICEF Global Action in Your Classroom by Scott Hirschfeld,
Director of Education of U.S. Fund for UNICEF
The international community is faced with increasingly complex humanitarian crises
which place children at significant risk. On average, UNICEF responds to more than two
hundred emergencies every year, both natural and human-made. Now, the U.S. Fund for
UNICEF brings that work to classrooms through a new resource: Global Citizenship
Briefs. In this session, participants will receive and explore copies of these colorful,
informative student magazines (topics include hunger and malnutrition, the Ebola crisis,
the Syrian civil war, and Typhoon Haiyan and climate change). They will also be
introduced to the suite of educator lessons and resources that accompany the Briefs,
learning about different models for using the materials depending on their grade level,
subject, and time available. Participants will leave with turnkey ideas for bringing global
citizenship to any classroom.

TEACHER/ PARENT WORKSHOP SESSIONS
Friday, March 27th
10:00am - 11:00am – Fundraising Solutions by Angela Updike
Angela Updike has experience with the fundraising dilemmas many not-for profits face
today. Before becoming a Montessori teacher, she was Director of Marketing with IBM,
and determined which charities should receive their marketing dollars by determining the
value of the relationship. Prior to becoming a Montessori teacher, she was a Montessori
parent and was elected president of the PTA for two years as a result of her successful
fundraising ideas. Her experience illustrates the challenges faced by small non-profit
organizations who need to raise money; solicit donations, obtain corporate sponsors and
compete with other charities for limited marketing dollars. Angela will share with you a
new, unique, cost effective and fun fundraising tool that will save your organization
countless man-hours and money.
03:00pm – 03:30pm – MMUN Educational Tours by Raphael Forestieri
Learn about MMUN’s Educational Tour Program. MMUN will provide hands on
experiences focusing on UNESCO World Heritage Sites and incorporating a summit
focused on Millennium Development Goals. In this lecture our Project Manager Raphael
Forestieri will present the different tours that are upcoming in 2015 and 2016.
This is a tentative schedule and may be subject to change due to unforeseen
circumstances.
