Welcome back
We welcome everyone back to the new school term. A special welcome to the
new families at MPW. We look forward to a long and positive association.
New Staff Member
As you may remember Amy Dinsdale began her leave yesterday as she and her
partner, Simon, prepare for the arrival of their first child. Over the past two days
Amy was able to provide a comprehensive handover to the new teacher of Room
6, Patrick O’Connor. Patrick completed two placements at MPW as a part of his
teacher training in 2014. We’re very happy to have Patrick on staff and look forward to his contributions as a part of the MPW team.
Movie Night
The annual movie night is this Friday 17th April. Ticket sales are very low so if you
haven’t purchased yet please do so ASAP. In advance we thank Elisa McDonald
and her team for the work that has gone into this great evening.
ANZAC Day Ceremony
As you may be aware, 25 April marks the 100th Anniversary since the landing at
Gallipoli. For your information, the annual City of Moonee Valley ANZAC day Commemoration Ceremony will be held at the cenotaph in Queen’s Park, Moonee
Ponds on Sunday, 19 April commencing at 3:00 pm.
Secondary School’s Expo
Once again Moonee Ponds West Primary School will be hosting the annual Secondary School’s Expo. The Expo is an opportunity for you, along with your child, to
meet and hear from representatives from our neighbouring schools. Although
aimed at parents of students in grade 5 and 6 all families are welcome to attend.

Principals’ Report Continued
Grade 3/4 Camp
Today we farewelled the first group of Grade 3/4 students who are attending their 3 day camp at Camp
Sunnystones at Merrimu, north east of Bacchus Marsh. In advance we thank all staff who are and will be attending
camp. We’d especially like to thank Jess Greenbaum for her coordination of the event. We look forward to hearing

MPW Community Partnership—End of Term Catch
There was a great turn up at our end of Term catch up at Riverside Golf Club. Approximately 100 - 120 people
attended. Many of the parents attending were thrilled the event was organised and would support the event ongoing. There was additional feedback which will be taken to the next Community Partnership’s Meeting to assist with
our planning.
Lost Dogs Home Appeal
The Lost Dogs Home (North Melbourne) is in desperate need of towels, newspapers and dog treats in the lead up
to winter and we're looking for your help.
If you have any of these items and you'd like to donate them please bring them along to our drop off point and
we'll ensure the lost dogs and cats get them.
Collection Date: Wednesday 29th April - Until 10 a.m.
Drop Off Point: School Gym Entrance
What we're collecting: Towels, newspapers and dog treats.
Additional details can be located on the Lost Dogs Home Flyer on the school’s notice board.

Soundhouse SAP Music Program
Soundhouse is straight back in to lessons this week!
Please note there might be a few adjustments to the
timetable to cater for specialist timetable changes.

Congratulations to our Prize winners for the Term 1
Chess Tournament.
If you’d like your child to participate in Soundhouse for
Term 2, please go to the office and fill out a direct debit
form and hand it to Sandra. We have plenty of positions
available in Keyboard, SAP (Singing and Performance)
and Guitar!

Transition News
Transition Information Evening
There will be a Year 7 Transition Information Evening on Tuesday 21st April 2015
It will be held in the Performance Space commencing at7pm.
This will be the week prior to the Secondary School Expo that will be held in the Gym on Thursday 30th
April 2015
Please put these two dates into your calendar:
It is very important that parents of Year 6 students attend these evenings. Parents of current Year 5 students are also welcome to attend.
Please note that there is a table set up in the corridor of the 4/5/6 building with information about our
local secondary schools. Please take some time to familiarise yourself with the information on the table
and collect any brochures’ or packs that you require.
Keep an eye on the newsletter for information about Open Days and Tours that the Secondary School
offer. Take the time to read the school websites and familiarise yourself with the zones that apply to
each school.
Pascoe Vale Girls College
Pascoe Vale Girls College invites prospective students and their parents to attend one of our information sessions at our college.
Open day @ UHS in 2015
You will have the opportunity to meet College
leaders and hear about our curriculum and programs offered to our students. This will be followed by a tour of the College.

Movie Night
The sausages are ready to be sizzled, the candy bar (and parent bar) is stocked and the weather forecast
looks great! But…
WE HAVENT SOLD ENOUGH TICKETS YET!!
Movie Night is one of the biggest events on the MPW fundraising calender and we need your support
for it to be a success.
Please support our school by coming along to this fun event and help us raise some money. This money
will support the educational programs and resources for our children to learn and enjoy.
We need you to buy your tickets ASAP from the office to avoid having to cancel the night.

COMMUNITY NEWS
The Rose of Tralee International Festival is one of
Ireland's largest and longest running festivals.
This year, the Melbourne Rose selection ball will
be taking place on the 2nd of May with 8 girls
competing to become the 2015 Melbourne Rose.
The winner will be sent to Ireland to represent
Melbourne in the Rose of Tralee festival in August
Amongst these girls is our very own Dearbhail
Morrissey from the general office. Dearbhail will
be competing in May with the hope of representing Melbourne in the Rose of Tralee festival
this year.
One of her tasks as a Rose is to sell a number of
raffle tickets to raise money for the production of
the festival.
The raffle prizes are amazing and include:
1st PRIZE: 2 x Return Tickets to Ireland
(sponsored by Etihad Airways & Emerald
Travel)
2nd PRIZE: $1000 Travel Voucher
3rd PRIZE: $500 Dinner Voucher to Cutler &
Co. (2011 Restaurant of the Year)
Tickets are $20 and can be purchased from the
front office. Dearbhail would like to sincerely
thank anyone who supports her in purchasing a
raffle ticket and we here at MPW wish her the
best of luck in the Melbourne Rose competition!
