It will be posted here on Facebook each month to keep you up to date on what is happening in Pearl River County 4-H. Land Judging A Land Judging Training will be held on March 7, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on a farm about 15 minutes from Winona. Please call immediately if you plan to participate in this training. The State Land Judging Contest will be held on March 24, 2015. The location will be announced at a later date. State 4-H Congress 4-H Record Book Workshop Now is the time to let me know in which contest you will be competing at State 4-H Congress. It will be held on May 27-29, 2015 at MSU. Come learn how to complete a 4-H record book at the workshop on Monday, March 30, 2015, at 6:00 p.m. It will be held in the Pearl River County Administration Building Auditorium. Remember that you must complete a blue ribbon record book in order to be able to serve on the State 4-H Ambassadors team. Alpha Gamma Rho Scholarship This $1,000.00 scholarship will be awarded to a deserving individual planning to attend MSU. Go to http://msstateagr.com/scholarship if you would like more information. Horse Information Introductory Horse Judging Clinic Freedom Reins 4-H Club and Jasper County 4-H will be holding an Introductory Horse Judging Clinic on Saturday, March 21, 2015, beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the John R. Sims Livestock Arena. Dr . Clay Cavinder will be the instr uctor . The registration fee is $10 per person. The clinic is open to anyone interested in learning about the basics of horse judging. There will be demonstrations on how to prepare oral reasons, as well as demonstrations on how to judge halter, western pleasure and hunter under saddle. A mock judging clinic will be held at the end of the day, and prizes will be awarded! Sensory and Obstacles Clinic Ropes N Reins 4-H Horse Club will be holding a Sensory and Obstacles Clinic on Sunday, March 22, 2015, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Conrad Mallette Arena in Vancleave. The cost is $50 per per son, and r egistr ation is due to Ropes N Reins by March 13, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. This clinic is for all ages and is limited to 30 participants. This is a great clinic for 4-H members and competitors for Western Trail events, parades, trail riders and drill teams! Help your horse learn to master obstacles and distractions of all kinds! Drinks and a light snack will be provided. There will be a drawing for door prizes. Helmets are required for everyone! The instructor will be Michael Schaffer. He has been a Mobile police officer for 24 years. Mike was a full time mounted officer for four years and currently works mounted during special events. He is a certified unit instructor specializing in troop movements, crowd control, and policing on horseback. Mike also works as mounted security for large scale music festivals. His high energy teaching techniques make learning an enjoyable experience for all levels of riders. 2 Shooting Sports Shoots The following is a list of the shoots that have been scheduled: Marion County 4-H Multi-County Shoot – March 20 & 21 on Highway 13 in Columbia. $10 for up to 3 disciplines. Preregistration is required in our office by Thursday, March 12, 2015. Muzzleloader will shoot on Friday, March 20, from 3:00-5:00 p.m. (registration will open at 2:30 p.m.). .22 Pistol will shoot Saturday morning at 7:30 a.m. (registration will open at 7:15 a.m.). Gun check and registration for all other disciplines will open at 8:00 a.m. on March 21, and ranges will open at 8:45 a.m. Clark County 4-H Multi-County Shoot – Saturday, March 28, 2015, at the Meridian Public Safety Training Facility. Ever y discipline will begin shooting at 8:45 a.m. Registr ation is due in the Pearl River County Extension Service Office by Thursday, March 12. Jasper County 4-H Multi-County Match – Saturday, March 28, 2015, at the Jasper County Shooting Range in Bay Springs, Mississippi. The r egistr ation fee of $10 per 4-H’er (for up to 3 disciplines) is due in the Pearl River County Extension Service Office no later than March 9, 2015. Registr ation will be held fr om 7:30-8:30 a.m. Due to range restrictions, Muzzleloading and Hunting will not be available. Eye and ear protection will be required on the range. Southeast District 4-H Shooting Sports Event – Saturday, April 25, 2015 at the McHenry Shooting Facility in Perkinston, Mississippi. The registration is $8.00 per discipline. Livestock Information Tangipahoa Parish Cattlemen’s Association Summer Jr. Open Beef & Dairy Shows The Tangipahoa Parish Cattlemen’s Association Summer Jr. Open Beef & Dairy Shows will be held on April 18, 2015 in the Florida Parishes Arena in Amite, Louisiana. The entry fee is $20 per animal prior to April 1 and $50 per animal after April 1. For more information, call the Pearl River County Extension Service at 601-403-2280.
