Through this program, Canadian artists, organizations and collectives will access resources and opportunities that promote experimentation, exploration and artistic risk-taking. Engage and Sustain This program supports arts organizations in the production and presentation of ongoing, sustainable, high-quality artistic activities that engage the diversity of citizens within their communities and beyond. Its objectives are to support and develop professional artistic practices through the programming and activities of arts organizations; to encourage organizations to reflect the diversity of the communities that they participate in through their staffing, programming and public engagement responsibilities; and to foster excellence in high performing arts organizations which contribute to - and play a leadership role in - the continued development of arts practices in their community and in the arts sector at large. Through this program, arts organizations will offer high-quality programming and activities featuring a diversity of genres and arts practices; they will respond to change, create conditions for ongoing artistic development, and ensure their renewal and sustainability; they will actively provide resources for their professional community; and they will be recognized for the value they contribute to the lives of all Canadians. reating, Knowing and C Sharing Aboriginal Arts This program supports Aboriginal artistic and cultural expression and the vitality of Indigenous artists, artistic practices and communities. Although it is a dedicated program for Aboriginal arts, First Nations, Metis and Inuit artists are also invited to take advantage of all of the Canada Council’s other programs. This program will operate using a self-determined, Aboriginal-centred approach. This means that it will be guided by Aboriginal artists’ values and worldviews, administered by staff of Aboriginal heritage, assessed by Aboriginal arts professionals, and its impacts will be measured and reported on in an Aboriginal cultural and artistic context. Its objectives are to support customary and contemporary artistic and cultural practices by First Nations, Inuit and Metis artists, collectives and organizations; to support activities that deeply embed the perspectives, voices and stories of the First Peoples of this land in Canadian arts and Canadian society and to affirm, recognize and support customary and contemporary artistic practices, cultural protocols, and indigenous worldviews. Through this program, the customary and contemporary artistic practices of the Aboriginal peoples of Canada will be renewed, sustained and presented in Canada and abroad; authentic forms of artistic and cultural self-expression will be presented within Aboriginal communities; and indigenous perspectives, voices and stories will be integrated and represented more widely within the Canadian artistic community. Renewing Artistic Practice Arts Abroad This program supports innovation, collaboration, sustainability and adaptability in Canada’s professional arts sector. This program supports the presentation and circulation of Canadian art and artists abroad. This program will help arts professionals to share and debate current and emerging practices, tools and issues and to have access to timely expertise that helps their organizations respond to change. The presence of Canadian arts on the international scene is critical to the artistic and financial success of our artists and arts organizations. We need to have our artists represented in global networks, collaborations and exchanges, to enrich their practices and perspectives here at home, and to ensure Canada is even more recognized worldwide for its creativity, excellence, diversity and innovation. Its objectives are to support activities that enhance professional development in the Canadian arts sector and to support the development of innovative responses to changes within the Canadian arts sector. Through this program, organizations will share resources and expertise, collaborating to develop innovative approaches to meeting the twin challenges of practicing art professionally and administering arts organizations. Arts Across Canada This program encourages the dissemination of excellent Canadian art across the country for the benefit of as many Canadians as possible. Its objectives are to support activities that will allow Canadians in all regions of the country to have better access to diverse forms of expression and artistic experiences, leading more Canadians to appreciate and engage in the arts. It will also support activities that develop networks and domestic markets and foster artistic partnerships and collaborations, and that increase access to the arts for the Canadian public. Through this program, artists will have the resources to travel, tour, exhibit and disseminate their work in communities across Canada. They will be supported in developing and realizing opportunities for cultural and artistic exchange. They will design and test strategic approaches and initiatives to develop Canadian markets for artists and arts professionals. And Canadians at large will be given access to Canada’s deep and diverse pool of artistic talent. The objectives of the Arts Abroad program are to support activities that enhance the profile, appreciation and presence of Canadian artists and arts professionals abroad, to support activities that contribute to the international reach and recognition of Canadian artists and arts professionals, and to support activities that encourage international exchange to stimulate the advancement of the arts in Canada. Through this program, a diversity of Canadian artworks will be experienced by global audiences; Canadian artists, arts professionals and arts organizations will be supported in developing international markets for their work; and Canadian artists, arts professionals and arts organizations will have the capacity to engage in reciprocal international activities and other targeted projects.
