Now it is the turn of the all important Standing Committee Chairman who is scheduled to be elected on 27 May, 2015. Put in to bat MI batsman except for the first over (Faf du Plessis ran out Parthiv Patel brilliantly at non striker end) dominated the show. Skipper Rohit Sharma kept his love affair with the venue after he blitzed his way to a half-century first up and in the company of opener Lendl Simmons snatched the initiative back in spectacular fashion to put up a record 119 runs in 11.1 overs for the second wicket to lay th foundation for a huge total. Simmons brought up his half-century off 35 balls in the tenth over, while Rohit reached the milestone in the twelfth over. The duo fell in space of two balls (Rohit to Dwayne Bravo and Simmons to Dwayne Smith) however failed to restrict the MI rampage as Kieron Pollard and Ambati Rayudu warmed up to the occasion to ensure their team finished for only the second ever recorded a 200-plus total (202 for 5) in an IPL final. Tezan had last year received an international second rank in the Cyber Olympiad and was also awarded the second position in Maharashtra’s best student contest. This year, he was a part of Navi Mumbai’s winning team in the Vodafone quiz and was among the top six contenders for Numero Uno, an event of Jamnabhai Narsee School’s cultural festival Cascade. It feels good to have our city featured in the education scenario as top contenders. This happened only because of hard work by Tejan. The only way to succeed in life is it to work hard and the people who do not work hard end up being unsuccessful individuals. Hard work is a key to success. One has to work hard in life, in order to achieve his By C K Subramaniam goals. Without hard work a person will end up with nothing else but just miseries, regrets and unsuccessful life. Some people do not work hard and leave everything on fate. They believe that a miracle will happen to help them out. They are so adamant on their idea that they completely ignore the fact and live in their own dream world. But in the end, they really regret their decision when they have to face the undesirable repercussions. They end up with agony, ignominy and unsuccessful life. In order to succeed, one should be devoted, hard working and should be ready to confront whatever comes in his way, to risk whatever it takes to get what he wants. He should think sagaciously and obviate all the mendacious beliefs that might detract him. One should recognize that his own strength and hard work are his true assets, and all other resorts are unreliable. In entertainment scenario, the debacle of Bombay Velvet was Cont. on pg. 7 CMYK 5 IPL 8 had many twists and turns but in the end Mumbai Indians scaled all the glory in an one sided final. CSK after winning the toss gave the match on platter by asking Mumbai Indians to bat first on an easy paced wicket. Knowing fully well about the slow nature of wicket when a team bat second, Dhoni offered the first chance to the Mumbai outfit and that was enough to change the course of the match from the word go. Having won IPL Championship twice, CSK had the upper hand to dictate terms. But consistent performance all through the tournament came to naught to CSK in the final. First they allowed MI to cross a total of 200 in 20 overs and thus made it impossible to score more than 10 runs per over from the first over. Mumbai Indians after having struggled to enter the knock out stage and a bad start, 4 defeats on the trot in the beginning, made merry of the situation and achieved an em- dens, Kolkata. On probing what the action was, we learnt that each offender was asked to pay a fine of Rs 100 and let off! Is it adequate or condign punishment for polluting the atmosphere and cause unease to thousands and lakhs of citizens? Anyway, what is apparent from the incident is that the authorities are not serious about dealing with the problem. If their action is to be effective, first, they will have to increase the fine to say Rs 1,000 per vehicle. Further, there must be provision for doubling it for repeat offences. May, the law needs to be amended to include these provisions. At the implementation level, what we learnt is that each policeman is given a ‘target’ to be met. Once that is met, he feels relieved and not responsible for anything more. Those who want to blare horns and spread pollution can continue to do so; the cop is unconcerned; he is safe as he has completed his target. This sort of attitude is not acceptable. Every person in authority should be made to feel concerned about his responsibilities all the time. The fine prescribed should be such as to pinch and hurt the offender. It may be necessary to increase it to say, Rs 2,000 or 3,000! It should remind him about the cost of his mistake. At the implementation level, it is better if the cop catches two or three motorists and fines them heavily. That will send home a graver message than collecting fines from a hundred people. A small fine sends the message that one is free to go on blaring the horn as long as he is ready to pay the fine of Rs 100, a pittance in today’s terms. To be effective, it may be necessary to check the type of horns at the factories and show rooms. If any vehicle is found fitted with the offending horn, it must be made to pay the fine instantly and also remove it then and there. It is difficult to catch a vehicle once it is on the road. In fact, this is true of other areas of administration also. Whether it is a traffic offence or an auto rikshaw running without a permit, the cops are least serious. For example, we see vehicles parked on the foot paths blocking the movement of pedestrians. There are others who will ride through prohibited pedestrians paths All that it requires is to tell the offenders that this will not be permitted. Today, the cop feels unconcerned about these offences. Overall MI leads 12-10 against CSK in IPL (2-1 in finals). MI now have a 72 win-loss record in IPL matches in Kolkata. Contrasting scoring patterns in Powerplay/Half way stage: MI Indians once again came up with their joint best performance with the bat in the Pepsi IPL 2015 when they scored 61 runs in six overs against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), who on the other hand scored 31 which incidentally is their lowest score in a chase this IPL season. Similarly at the end of 10 overs MI were 98 for 1 (second highest in an IPL final after Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2012 (also against CSK)). CSK on the other hand were 67 for 1. Highest wicket stand for champions in IPL final: MI’s opener Lendl Simmons and skipper Rohit Sharma put on 119 for the second wicket which is their teams’ first century stand for CMYK Cont. from pg. 4 any wicket in an IPL final. It’s also the fourth century partnership in an IPL final – CSK, and KXIP have achieved this record earlier. Second best total in IPL final: MI score of 202 for 5 is the second –highest score by a team in a IPL final and is also their highest yet against CSK. The record for the highest score is that by CSK who scored 205 for 5 against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2011 title clash. Its MI’s sixth 200-plus score in all IPLs. Simmons best season in IPL 2015 final: Lendl Simmons (68 off 45 balls) who is MI’s leading run getter (540 runs including six fifties at an average of 45.00 in 13 matches) this season is also the top scorer in the final, ahead of his CSK’s Dwayne Smith (57 off 48balls) and his skipper Rohit Sharma (50 off 26 balls). Enjoying his best season in IPL he has scored one hundred and nine fifties in the IPL overall at and averages 49.15 while aggregating 934 in 21 innings which is the highest by any batsman in the IPL (minimum 10 innings) . He became the second MI batsman to amass 500 runs or more in an IPL season, joining Sachin Tendulkar (618 in 2010 and 553 in 2011). He earlier had scored 98 n.o in the tournament opener against host KKR on the losing cause By guiding MI to their second IPL title became only the second player (Yusuf Pathan) to be a part of an IPL winning XI on three occasions. He was also part of the Deccan Chargers’ winning team in 2009 and with the MI in 2013. All is well There is no need of bullet trains As per statement made by Union railway minister Suresh Prabhu, railways are not going for bullet trains atleast in the near future. This is a good decision taken by the railway minister. Investing in bullet train corridor will be a waste of huge amount of public money. Even if bullet train corridor comes up, there may not be enough takers for that. Instead, Government should promote low cost airlines which will be preferred by the commuters. It is also a good decision taken by the railway minister for agreeing to concentrate on increasing the speed of the existing trains instead of going for bullet trains. The money to be spent for increasing the speed of the existing trains will be very much low as compared to huge amount of money to be spent for bullet corridors. Gatiman express between Delhi and Agra travels at 160 kmph. If this speed can be achieved for other existing and important trains, then, there won’t be any need for bullet trains. - S. Ravichandran, Airoli Fixing Fiasco The writing is on the wall. Fixing saga takes Indian cricket to a new low and the IPL cricket suffers the maximum in encouraging betting as well as fixing. Players, Captain, the coach and even Team mentors are involved in the fixing game from outside the ground. In a startling revelation, even the cops protect bookies and thus opened up the Pandora’s Box and the nexus is spreading like wild fire and IPL cricket provide base for players to make short buck even without performing well. From the weather forecast, toss, combination of team, the ringing of bowling changes, hitting sixes and fours and the batsmen getting out at an appropriate time all happens as per schedule. Signals were passed on to the players from outside and players in turn oblige the bookies by having a towel in the hip to reciprocate from inside the field. In all, the game of uncertainties is slowly becoming a certain turnaround as per the fixing and people watching the game are made fools and compelled to shell out money only to watch a pre-arranged match. The lid was blown off and the players were made to act like a puppet, of course for a big price and the result of the matches were made known even before the toss. Even the toss is fixed. The nexus of alleged fixers include the high and mighty in Indian sports persons, politicians and even senior officers from the people protecting us are involved. The small fries have only less role to play in controversial Indian Paisa League. - Nicks Maniam, Nerul Mumbai Indians... trying out pinch hitters to prop up scoring, the proceedings were slowed down creating doubts about the capability of the Chennai batsmen. The same thing happened in play off to decide the finalist. Big hitter Gayle was made to push here and there to the surprise of all. Ace spinner Ashwin was played out with dot balls with a stint of 113 in four overs, whereas he was used for two overs without proper field placements to give room for scoring and stopped abruptly to swell the scoring to an imposing total. The match turned in Mumbai’s favour from the word go and it was an one Cont. from pg. 5 sided affair in the end. Mumbai continued to make things difficult for Chennai and most ways back into the game looked sealed. And once Harbhajan Singh’s zooter saw the end of the much-settled Smith and then had Raina stumped off a quicker, wider one, the game was all but finished. Dhoni was still Hard work... Cont. from pg. 4 much talked about. I also watched it and I found it soul less. It’s like a lady with full makeup, ornaments and grandeur but lacking reality. A film succeeds only when it touches a chord in your heart, but anyway 7 at the crease at that stage and helped himself to a six off Malinga but by then it had become a case of too little, too late and Mumbai completed a comprehensive victory. It was a significant achievement for the Mumbai Indians under Rohit Sharma to lift the IPL cup in style with Dhoni’s men left wondering about their free run earlier in IPL 8. ‘Piku’ fills the vacant seat in your heart. The hilarious and simple story of a father and daughter is fantastic and enjoying the coolness of a theatre is also feel-good factor or else this hot weather is insufferable. So enjoy your vacation and plan to go to some cool place. Happy summer, Readers! CMYK Mumbai Indians completed one of the most remarkable turnarounds in the eight-year history of the Indian Premier League by transforming a terrible start to the tournament - they were at the bottom of the table for the first two weeks - into a title win. The final, a repeat of their 2013 success at the same ground against the same opposition, turned out to be one of the easier outings after an unbridled early onslaught by Rohit Sharma and Lendl Simmons, both of whom hit half-centuries, stunned Chennai Super Kings - veterans of IPL finals - into submission. Super Kings were not even given a sniff. MS Dhoni’s choice of bowling first on a patchy Eden Gardens pitch was interesting, not because he might have over-compensated for the presence of dew later on but because it was a departure from a strategy that had worked for Super Kings during in their two previous title wins - bat first, score big, then apply the squeeze. The start was perfect; Faf du Plessis ran out Parthiv Patel brilliantly and Ashish Nehra ensured only one came off the first over. But the pattern changed and the match went ahead as per script. By winning for the second IPL Mumbai Indians played to the gallery. Congrats Mumbai Indians. All is well for the home team as well as for the IPL organizers. - Jayanthy S Maniam, Sion East Websites of the Fourth All India Hindu Convention launched Fourth All India Hindu Convention being held in the meeting hall of Shri Ramnath Temple, Ponda, Goa from 11 June to 17 June 2015 is receiving very good response from the representatives of Hindu organisations, religious organisations and sects from Bharat and foreign countries.
