BIOSECURITY ALERT
BIOSECURITY ALERT April 2015 Heightened Alert for Avian Influenza As you know, in recent days a second farm has succumbed to avian influenza. This notice to all producers is to advise you to take extra precautions both on and off your farm to reduce the risk of contamination. WHAT SHOULD YOU DO? Biosecurity starts at the gate. If you have a gate at the entrance of your farm make sure it is locked. Limit all incoming and outgoing traffic. Make sure EVERYONE entering your farm signs your log book. All vehicles and equipment entering your farm should have their tires washed and disinfected. All doors to your barns are locked to prevent unauthorized entry. Check bait stations to see that they are in good working order and contain fresh bait. When entering your barns ensure that all staff practices proper donning and doffing of PPE (personal protective equipment) meant only for the barn. No outside footwear enters the barn! Make sure indoor boots pass through a proper footbath. Change the disinfectant in the footbath daily. Walk your barns more than once a day to observe your birds and watch closely for any changes in your flock. If you suspect something, call OBHECC immediately and then call your hatchery!
