Dear Parents,
Spring is upon us and the warm weather
is a welcomed friend after the harsh winter
we experienced in the northeast. For educators and students alike spring fills us with a
renewed sense of purpose and the necessary
energy to finish the school year with the
same vigor that we started.
As our school year comes to an end, I
must admit that it is most bitter sweet to part
with the Class of 2015. As of May 1st, our
graduates have been accepted and committed to attend some of the finest schools in
the country. Their accomplishments will
take them to Yale, Georgetown, Oberlin
College, Columbia University, Bard, Vassar,
New Paltz, Northeastern, Villanova Engineering, Georgia Tech, Iona, Siena, Marist,
SUNY Stony Brook, Binghamton, Albany,
Buffalo, Villanova School of Nursing, St.
Anselm School of Nursing, Sacred Heart
University, University of Washington,
Mount Saint Mary College, Drexel University, Scranton University and many, many
more. Most Lourdeans have received generous scholarships as the result of their hard
work and extracurricular activities. This is a
truly impressive group of young men and
women who worked within the rigorous
framework set forth by Our Lady of Lourdes
Faculty and Administration in order to prepare for their continued academic journey.
They are sure to make great contributions to
the world and honor God by and through
their accomplishments.
It is our hope that all underclassmen are
diligently preparing for Regents and finals.
We ask that you please pay close attention to
posted Regents review schedules, teacher
websites, and finals and Regents schedules.
Teachers offer many opportunities to assist
students in preparation for finals and Regents and we encourage all students to attend extra help when it is available. Students

As this year comes to an end, I must say
that I have had the opportunity to watch unsure and cautious freshmen blossom into
confident and joyful Lourdeans. I observed
sophomores and juniors grow in friendship
with one another and meet the daily challenges of managing difficult course work
and their outside interests. I have been continually impressed with their gracious and
kind smiles in the hallway and their willingness to give and serve those in need. Our
Lady of Lourdes High School is a very special school because of the respect and commitment we have for one another. We thank
you for entrusting the education of your
child to the esteemed faculty and staff at
OLL, and I thank you for your commitment
to excellence in Catholic education.

June 2015 Final Exam Schedule
2015 Summer NYS Regents Exams
Our Lady of Lourdes High School will be offering and
administering New York State Regents exams in the month of
August. Students who are interested in retaking an exam or
who have failed an exam are welcome and asked to register in
person on Wednesday, June 24th and Friday, June 26th between
the hours of 9:00am to 11:00am. Registration will take place
in Room 117, which is located near the South Bus Entrance.
Registration forms will also be available online at ollchs.org on
the Guidance page. The window for registering students for an
exam will end on Friday, July 10th. The fee for taking an exam
in August is $80.00 for a Lourdes student and $100.00 for a
non-Lourdes student.
The schedule for the August exams is listed below. Morning
exams will begin at 8:30 a.m. and afternoon exams at 12 noon.
Students who are informed by their teacher that they have
failed a particular exam during the June administration period
should make sure they contact their guidance counselor
immediately in order to create a plan for review of the subject
matter and schedule a retake of the exam.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO PARENTS—
The following policy will be in effect for the collection of textbooks:
Seniors – Books will be collected from May 18 -- May 27 in
the classrooms. After these dates, books must be returned directly to Mrs. Mletzko in the library. Graduation tickets and
cap and gown will be withheld from any senior who has outstanding books or who has not paid for any lost books by
June 3.
Underclassmen – Books will be collected from June 8 -- June
12 in the classrooms or on the day of a final exam outside the
exam room. After these dates, books must be returned directly
to Mrs. Mletzko in the library by 12:00 each day. Report cards
will be withheld from any student who has outstanding books
or who has not paid for any lost books by Tuesday, June 23.

OUR LADY OF LOURDES HIGH SCHOOL
EXAMINATION POLICY
PREPARATION
Students are responsible to bring home all books and study materials necessary to prepare for final and NYS Regents
exams.
Every student is responsible to know the date, time, and room for each of their exams and report to the test at the
proper time. The starting time for each test is noted on the exam schedule posted throughout the school and can be
found on the school website (www.ollchs.org). Homeroom periods are not scheduled during exam weeks.
ATTENDANCE
Students should arrive at school twenty (20) minutes prior to their scheduled exam and must be present in their assigned testing room ten (10) minutes before the start of the exam.
Students do not have to report to school on days that they are not scheduled for an exam. Students must report to the
cafeteria, library or as directed during times that they are not scheduled to take an exam. Students may not roam the
corridors while exams are in session.
The only acceptable excuse for an absence from an exam is an illness confirmed by a physician. The student’s
parent/guardian must telephone the school in the morning and the physician's documentation must be delivered to
the Attendance Office on the day the student returns to school. The Assistant Principal will determine when the exam will be rescheduled; however, students excused from a final exam as described above will be expected to be prepared to take the exam on the day they return to school.
In the event of inclement weather on a scheduled exam day, students and parents should refer to the school website
and local radio stations for announcements and updates. The status of NYS Regents Exams will be announced on the
radio and posted on the OLL website.
ACADEMIC INTEGRITY
Academic dishonesty, including cheating, which is any attempt to give or obtain assistance in a formal academic exercise to gain an advantage, will not be tolerated. Students are not permitted to have in their possession a cell phone or
any other electronic device during the administration of an exam. Students are aware that they are to remove all
books, notes, or other aids from their sight and out of reach during the exam. No calculators are allowed in an exam
room unless otherwise permitted. These conditions will be enforced by the exam proctor.
DURATION
The duration of each final exam will be one and a half hours and students must remain in the classroom for the entire
period unless otherwise noted. The duration of a NYS Regents exam will be three hours and students must remain in
the exam room for a minimum of two hours unless otherwise noted.
DRESS CODE
The official school dress code is in effect during exam week.

CAMP INFORMATION / SUMMER 2015
Traditional Basketball Camp
The annual Edge Athletics Basketball Camp will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes High School the weeks of July 6, July 13, and July
27. Cost is $145 per week and camp includes: Instruction, t-shirt, awards, basketball cards, and game videos. Medical forms are
required, immunization form and exam within 1 year of camp is required. To register online and for more information visit

Basketball Offensive Skills and Shooting Clinic
This three day Offensive Skills and Shooting Clinic presented by Edge Athletics at Our Lady of Lourdes High School will be held
on August 3, 4 & 5. Learn the proper way to shoot a basketball and how to create space through the use of three basketball shooting machines and professional instruction. Volleyball Camp
Volleyball Camp at Our Lady of Lourdes High School is scheduled for the week of August 10 th. Girls 6th through 8th grades are invited for a week of instructional volleyball in the Lourdes Arts and Athletic Center. The emphasis of the camp will be fundamental
skill development in the areas of passing, serving, hitting and defense. The camp will operate Monday through Friday from
9:00 am - 3:00 pm and will be limited to 50 campers. The fee is $50. Questions call (914) 475-3028.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH~
Each year our Religion classes reach out to help good causes here,
near home, as well as in far off missions. During Lent we received
a request from the Day Treatment Program at Cerebral Palsy of
Ulster County. The staff wanted to have an Easter Party for their
clients, but they needed a Bunny costume. Could we help?
One Freshmaen class took up the challenge. With help from some
adults here at OLL, the students collected all through Lent. Our
efforts culminated in the purchase of a great costume that will
last for years (even dry cleanable)!
Since many of the clients are on special food restrictions, we were
also able to purchase a stuffed animal for each of the 60 people
who attend the Day Treatment Program.
The party was a success, as you can see in these photo. Thanks to
everyone for your generosity!

GUIDANCE CORNER~
SENIOR PARENTS: In early May all seniors will receive a very important form requesting information about their plans for next
year (college, work, military, etc.). ALL SENIORS MUST RETURN THIS FORM. It is extremely important for our records, the
graduation program, and the statistics required by the State.
For those seniors planning to attend college, a transcript will be sent to their final college choice in early July. This is one of the
important items on the form mentioned above. If any senior makes a last minute change in the college he/she plans to attend, please
notify Guidance right away so that the transcript can be sent to the correct college.
GRATITUDE PAYS: Please remind your sons and daughters to say a word of thanks to those teachers and guidance counselors
who wrote letters of recommendation to colleges.
JUNIOR PARENTS: Again, we want to remind you to contact us if you still have questions regarding the college search and application process. Continue to encourage your sons and daughters to START EARLY AND PLAN COLLEGE VISITS OVER THE
SUMMER. At our March meeting with parents, we gave out a checklist explaining how to begin the college search and prepare
applications. Please encourage your sons and daughters to follow this checklist and to get started early.
VERY IMPORTANT: Very soon your daughters and sons will be taking their final exams for junior year. This is their last chance
to improve the GPA which will be sent to colleges. Please remind them how important these finals are for college applications.
TWO SPECIAL REMINDERS:
1. We strongly urge all juniors to take the SAT/ACT exam this spring and again in the fall which will give them at least two scores
to send to colleges. They should apply online.
2. Encourage your daughters and sons to use the summer months to read about, explore, and visit colleges.
ALL PARENTS: Since this is our last newsletter of the school year , we want to r emind all students and par ents that all failed
subjects must be made up in Summer School. Our guidance counselors will be calling a few days following the last exam to inform
those students who have failed one or two subjects. Please be available on those days if a call should be necessary. Students who
have recently moved or have unlisted telephone numbers should call the Guidance Office directly. Information about dates for registration and dates for Summer School will be given to all students in school. Students who fail three or more subjects will be asked
to withdraw from Lourdes (Student Handbook, pg. 7). Students who do not attend Summer School when required will also not be
allowed to return to Lourdes. Please be aware that summer plans or work will not exempt a student from this requirement.
Each summer, many colleges offer courses in various subjects, careers and skill areas. As information for these programs comes to
us, we make it available in our Guidance Center. We encourage interested students to make use of this material.
Students taking college level classes will need to provide their Social Security number for the Dutchess registration. This will
be done on the first day of classes. Students who live outside of Dutchess County will also be required to provide residence
information from their home counties.

In order to make the Summer Book Sale more convenient for students and families, we will have two Book
Sale days. Students and parents may come anytime between 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on August 26 and 27.
You will be able to purchase Religion textbooks, any
workbooks/review books needed for any other class
and school locks.
The sale will take place in room 104 (enter the building
through the main entrance).
Incoming freshmen will have an opportunity during
Freshmen Family Orientation on August 25 to purchase
books and locks.
Students who are unable to make any of these days, will
have an opportunity to visit the Bookstore during homeroom on the first day of school.

your student is returning next year. If you are not returning next year, please notify the Main Office as soon as possible.

All tuition and fees for the current school year must be paid in full by May 10, 2015 so that your child can take final exams, receive graduation materials and yearbook.

If you applied for Financial Aid for the 2015-2016 school year, you will be notified by the Business Office on or around June
15th.

All Pay in Full payments for the new school year are due by June 19, 2015 in order to receive the $100 discount. Send only
$7,750.00 to FACTS.

The first payment for the new school year for Monthly Invoice plans (Includes the $59 FACTS fee) and Automatic checking
plans is due August 10, 2015.


From The Parents’ Organization ...
Dear Parents and Guardians,
It’s hard to believe that we are almost at the end of another school year!
Thanks to the support of our members we have been able to make some significant donations to the school. The $3,000 annual pledge supporting the Capital Campaign was covered, we were a sponsor at the Divine Taste Evening, and our beautiful
campus will be getting new informational signs which we will be purchasing as soon as all the permits are obtained.
Thank you for your continued support of our fundraisers. That money allows us to make these donations and improvements
to the school. Our Yankee Candle fundraiser in February raised approximately $1600. Special thanks to Kathy Wiley who
chaired this event for us.
Our annual Clothing Drive in early March was very successful, bringing in 10,402 pounds of clothing, shoes, toys, and linens
to help impoverished countries and raising $2,000 for our organization. Special thanks to Missy DeMattio and to all the students who helped with the event. Please mark your calendars for next year’s clothing drive which will be held the weekend
of February 27 – March 1, 2015. The Parents’ Org. does have storage space for any items you would like to drop off prior to
the next drive. Please contact Pat Philipbar to make arrangements.
At our May OLLPO meeting, the drawing for the tuition raffle winner will be held. Drawings for the 26 week club winners will

Our last event this year is the Staff Appreciation Luncheon, scheduled for Monday, June 15. We need a chairperson for this
event as well as volunteers to provide a dessert for this year’s luncheon. If you are able chair the event or to provide a dessert that day, please contact Pat Philipbar.
The Parents’ Organization would like to thank the cafeteria staff and maintenance staff for all the help they have given us this
year.

Mock Trial Team Wins County Title ─
The Mock Trial Team has won the Dutchess County Championship for the second year in a row. The team went on to compete in
the Regional Tournament, making it to the second round before losing to Orange County. Senior Brigid Cruser has been selected
by the Dutchess County Bar Association to receive the Ben Allen Breslow Award for Outstanding Performance. The Mock Trial
team is coached by faculty member Andrea DeMeo and Assistant District Attorney Edward T. McLoughlin.

Medical Requirements for Fall Sports
(For those currently enrolled in Grades 9-11, May 2015)
Any student who wishes to participate in a fall sport at Our Lady of Lourdes must meet both
of the following requirements:
# 1. The athlete must pass a sport physical prior to participation --- this includes team tryouts.
Sports physicals are valid for one calendar year.
Physical exams for current students, grades 9 - 11 will continue to be offered during May.
Students should sign up for a physical in the Health Office by May 14th. It is the responsibility of the student to schedule and keep his/her appointment.
The school nurse must receive notification of any sport physical planned to be done outside of
school.
AND
# 2. An updated health history will also need to be completed by the parent/guardian prior to
the start of tryouts. This form will be mailed home in July to students in grades 9 - 11 who
have a valid sports physical on file in the Health Office. It must be received NO LATER
THAN Tuesday, August 4th.

The school Health Office is closed during the summer. It will be open August 4th-August 6th. If you have any questions regarding the above, please contact the school nurse, Mrs. McAllister, R.N., at extension 1131 before the end of
the school year.
HEALTH OFFICE REMINDERS
The end of the school year is quickly approaching! If your child has medication in the school Health Office, please be advised that it must be picked up prior to the last day of school. Any medication remaining after that time will be discarded.
If your child will be applying for working papers through your school district, but needs an immunization record from the
health office, please see me before the end of the school year.

Our Lady of Lourdes TACHS Exam Review Course 2015
Our review course held at Our Lady of Lourdes High School is designed to familiarize students with the TACH exam. The course will
provide the students with an understanding of the test format, types of questions and how to approach different types of questions. Students will review the math, reading, writing, vocabulary and grammar skills on the exam and learn test-taking strategies
to help them work faster and more confidently to maximize their score.
 Our course instructors are highly qualified and students attending last year achieved significant success on the exam.
 Top performers on the TACHS exam completed our course here at OLL which resulted in substantial
scholarship offers

Thank you to all who came out and supported our 6 th Annual Divine Tastes event on Monday, April 20th. This is our annual
“premier” event held on the grounds of beautiful Locust Grove, and once again our Lourdes community has eagerly embraced this
special evening for which we are most grateful.
My sincerest appreciation to Taste Co-Chairs Lori Loehr and Donna Walsh. This event would not be possible and would not have
grown to the success it is without the dedication, enthusiasm and organization that they bring to creating this special evening. In
addition, I am extremely grateful to our dedicated and hard working student, faculty & parent volunteers especially the committee
members below who made the entire evening possible. From the initial planning to set-up to creating an exciting array of raffle prizes, their hard work and dedication cannot go unnoticed.

A Successful Year for the Math Team
The Math Team at Our Lady of Lourdes High School has had a very successful year of competition for the
2014-2015 school year! Our team competes as a member of the Dutchess, Ulster, Sullivan, and Orange County League (DUSO). After 5 local competitions, our “A” team, with members Thomas Gould, Andrew Lam,
Sean Michael, Philip O’Connor, Adam Wiley, and Zed Zhong, moved on to the Sectionals level competition.
Our “A” team tied for 5th place at Sectionals!
Two of our students, Thomas Gould and Zed Zhong, were invited to compete at the New York State Mathematics League (NYSML) competition. This competition was for the approximately 450 top mathematics students in New York State selected based on their Math Team competition scores. The competition took place
Saturday, April 25th at Syosset High School in Long Island.
Our students participated through the DUSO team. The top 45 students from the DUSO area were broken into
three 15 person teams, of which our students belonged in the "A" team and "B" team. The DUSO "B" team,
with the help of our very own Thomas Gould, finished in 3rd place with a difference of only one point between 3rd and 2nd place.
We would like to extend a congratulations to all students who participated on the OLL Math Team and look
we forward to another successful year to come!

As of May 15, 2015 no uniforms will be sold in the school bookstore.
The following options are available for purchasing OLL uniforms:
Starting June 2015, OLL school uniforms and gym uniforms can be purchased from Flynn & O’Hara School Uniforms.
School shoes can ONLY be purchased from CO-ED Uniform Shoe Company.
Flynn and O’Hara and CO-ED Uniform Shoe Company will be at Our Lady of Lourdes on June 10th from 3:006:30 pm. Additionally, Flynn and O’Hara will be at OLL on July 22nd from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm. (They will not be
providing uniform samples on this day.)
Students can also purchase the following items at Lil Darling Uniform Shoppe

shirts, sweaters, vests, oxfords, kilts, pants, socks and tights.
Additional items for students to purchase for the 2015-2016 School Year include Our Lady of Lourdes long sleeve polo
shirts and Our Lady of Lourdes varsity sweaters. These items are available for all grades and only available through
Flynn & O’Hara.
