Mt. 19:13 May 17, 2015 PASTORAL DIRECTION Proclaim the Gospel Today we celebrate one of the tenets of our creed: that the Lord ascended into heaven. From Mark’s Gospel we hear the final words Jesus spoke to his disciples shortly before he ascended into heaven. Those were words of commissioning, no less real for us today than they were to the disciples then. We are called to “proclaim the gospel to every creature.” For the vast majority of us, this means that we proclaim the gospel by the witness of our everyday lives. Treating others with dignity and respect, providing for those less fortunate than ourselves, being good stewards of the many gifts showered on us, coming together as God’s family in worship and praise—these are all signs that the gospel has taken root in our lives. TAIZE PRAYER SERVICE AND NOVENA TO THE HOLY SPIRIT As we near the end of the Easter Season, we begin to prepare for the great feast of Pentecost. After the Feast of the Ascension of the Lord, the church urges us to begin a novena to the Holy Spirit. The Novena to the Holy Spirit is the oldest novena and the only one prescribed by the Church, since it was instructed by Jesus when He sent the Apostles to wait and pray for the Holy Spirit. We will anticipate this noveThursday, May 14th at 7:30 p.m. na with a Taize Prayer Service on In this prayer form we meditate, chant, and praise God for what has been and what has yet to be revealed as we await the coming of the Holy Spirit. The Novena will begin on Friday, May 16th after the 8:00 a.m. Mass and will be prayed after Mass each morning including through to May 23rd. (This includes Sunday!) For those who are unable to be present each day at Mass, copies of the novena will be will be available in the Gathering Space so that everyone can have the opportunity of joining with the Church as she awaits the completion of Easter in the celebration of the Holy Spirit. TAIZE PRAYER SERVICE MAY 14th at 7:30 p.m. NOVENA TO THE HOLY SPIRIT MAY 15 THROUGH TO May 23rd. (after the 8:00 a.m. Mass) PRAY FOR THOSE WHO ARE ILL Rosa Alvarez; Raymond Kalscheuer; Karel Lukas; Mary Ann Novak; Hector Garza; Carey Newsome; Linda Stirpe; Beta Juarez; Kathy Riedel; Jim Charvat; Paige Jorstad; Carlos Benavides; Debbie Warner; Mary Jo Mathis; Joyce Pawlak, Jose Lustre; Mike Ebipane; Jim Dawson; Kathleen Wall; Emily Babcock; Mary Lou McDonald.
