He has won numerous awards, including a purchase award in the 2008 National Watercolor Society’s international exhibition. In 2009 Carl was chosen as one of the panel of three judges for the National Watercolor Society Annual Exhibition. “Stone Cadence” is one of a series of paintings I have been working on that explore the rhythmic patterns I see and feel in rock surfaces. I am drawn to the contrast of vertical fissures and cracks that cut through the horizontal layers of rock strata. To me these counter thrusts are like the unplanned events that cut through the welllaid plans of our lives. I see these rocks as living forms, moving and dancing to the rhythm of life.” NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION PERMIT NO. 4 OURAY, COLORADO While his primary medium of choice is watercolor, Carl also loves to work in oil and acrylic. Carl lives with his wife Nan in Manti, a small town in central Utah. His paintings reflect his love of nature, especially the rock canyon country of Utah. Our Photography Judge for 2015 Natalie Heller Statement by the artist: My first trip to Telluride in 1994 is what inspired me to take up photography. Before I knew it, I fell in love with it and since moving to Ridgway in 2005 it has become my passion. How could one help but not be swept away by the breathtaking beauty of the San Juans? I have always been in love with “the west”, having grown up on western movies. So just as thrilling to me has been my good fortune to photograph some our local ranching life. Photography is my way of preserving the visual delights and discoveries I encounter. It is my way of embracing the beauty around me. My joy is in sharing my photography with others. My work is dedicated to my husband whose love of travel affords me the opportunity to be in so many wonderful places and whose guidance has taught me how to really see. I am forever grateful to my friends and family for their encouragement in pursuing this engaging passion. ***************************************** Join OCAA and get the member discount on the show entry fee.
