DELIVERING PRODUCTIVITY, INNOVATION AND SERVICES FOR THE
POSTAL, EXPRESS AND COURIER INDUSTRIES
PARCEL-EXPO Asia Pacific will open its doors on 1314 May 2015 in Singapore, welcoming delegates and
visitors from national postal operators, express and
parcel delivery companies, couriers, e-fulfillment
providers, retailers and online sellers from across
the Asia-Pacific region and worldwide.
Following on from the great success of last
year’s conference and exhibition in Hong Kong, this
year’s event will again bring together all the leading
players in the industry to debate the latest issues and
e-commerce trends, form business relationships and
discover new innovations.
The Asia-Pacific region is now taking center stage
in the globalization of the e-commerce market, and
this has led to continued growth and opportunity in
the courier, express and parcel (CEP) market.
New cross-border trade supply chains between
Asia and Europe, Africa and South America and within
Asia itself will create great business opportunities for
the CEP market, e-tailers and consumers.
Along with the opportunities arising from the
booming growth of global e-commerce come
challenges. E-commerce is an area where changes
in demographics and consumer behavior could have
significant impact on logistics providers. Courier,
express and parcel companies will need to develop
new strategies to remain competitive in a fast-moving,
growing and crowded global marketplace.
PARCEL-EXPO Asia Pacific will provide a platform
for discussion between some of the leading players in
the industry about the opportunities and challenges
faced in the region. The exhibition will present the
very latest innovations, ideas and solutions that have
been designed to increase productivity, improve
customer experience and provide a competitive
advantage in this growing global market.
With delegates and visitors from more than 50
countries worldwide expected to attend the two-day
event, over 60 leading international speakers taking
part in the conference, and brand-new innovation and
technology in the exhibition hall, PARCEL-EXPO Asia
Pacific will be the industry event of the year. CONFERENCE RATES

Sangeetha Ranganath, vice president, eCommerce
Fulfilment eCommerce, Singapore Post Ltd.,
Singapore
Singapore and Asia Pacific is the fastest growing region in
the global eCommerce landscape. Most organisations are
looking for avenues to enter this high potential market in
a sustainable and effective manner. Sangeetha will talk
about the key characteristics of the eCommerce space in
Singapore and Asia Pacific and challenges SMEs are facing
today in regards to selling their products and services
online. She will close her presentation with the introduction
of SingPost’s new SME eCommerce solution, called
ezyCommerce.
09:15 - Buying overseas from China
Michael Luo, CEO, 4PX, China
The presentation will offer an analysis of cross-border
import, including the driving factors, the market size, the
current bottleneck and solutions.
09:30 - The personal supply chain
Charlie Macdonald, industry executive, Telstra,
Australia
Connected consumers want more from the supply chain.
They’re prepared to pay a premium for a better service.
They’re even willing to help co-create a supply chain that
delivers value to everyone. So why aren’t they getting what
they want? And what happens when you give them what
All presentations will be in English
they need? Our latest research paper looks at the potential
of the personal supply chain to transform the relationships
that retailers, manufacturers and transport organizations
have with their consumers and how his new value network
can create benefits for all.
09:45 - The customer value of integrating
business intelligence into processes
Stefan Berndt, senior product & business
development manager sortation solutions, Europe &
APMEA, Pitney Bowes, USA
Postal organizations and CEP providers require a complex
combination of technology and logistics processes. Speed,
precision and accuracy are a given for any effective parcel
processing system. In this session we will examine not only
how automated solutions provide a platform for growth
but, even more importantly, how the underlying business
intelligence is the true enabler for realizing the full
potential of the e-commerce market.
10:00 - Q&A
10:15 - 10:45 - Refreshment break
10:45 - Track & Trace as-a-Service for CrossBorder shipments - How we implemented the
China e-commerce “highway” to Europe and
Russia in 3 weeks
Jaakko Elovaara, CEO, Youredi Ltd, Finland
Is logistics a potential bottleneck for future e-commerce
growth? Cross-border e-commerce is expanding heavily, in
b2c and b2b. End-customers are expecting a trustworthy
delivery for their goods. As the shipments are flowing
through several parties and countries the audit trail of the
packages should follow real time. Many postal and parcel
operators have recently expanded their partnerships,
old EDI technology has been a challenge to adapt costefficiently. Youredi Integration platform as service (iPaaS) is
a proven, agile and rapid platform for all the ‘events’ from
pre-advice to delivery notifications, that helps merchants
and logistics operators serve the end-customers better,
thus growing sales and customer satisfaction.

11:00 - The evolving global supply network
14:45 - Q&A
Bruce Stubbs, director, industry marketing,
Honeywell Scanning & Mobility, Singapore
15:00 - 15:30 - Refreshment Break
The presentation will discuss the trends and forces that are
changing the landscape of the global supply chain, and how
focusing on workflow solutions will drive the efficiencies
your operations need to remain competitive.
15:30 - Middle East and Africa – rapidly
developing markets
11:15 - Building the e-commerce world of
tomorrow
The presentation will demonstrate how key countries in
the Middle East and Africa are attractive target markets
for the B2B and B2C sectors. There is a lot of investment
pouring into the region from Asia, and since the region as a
whole is more of an import market than an export one, from
an express B2B/B2C perspective, this presents excellent
opportunities for operators to take advantage of. By entering
the market through the strategic airport of Dubai, operators
have direct daily access to all key markets in the Middle
East and Africa.
Carl Hartmann, CEO & managing director, Temando,
Australia
Temando is one of the world leaders in intelligent
fulfillment for the e-commerce and logistics industries.
During this presentation Carl will outline some of the
exciting new technology that is helping to address the
challenges of global e-commerce.
11:30 - Q&A
11:45 - 14:00 - Lunch
Moderator - Daryl Jackson, global leader, Postal +
Logistics, Deloitte LLC, USA
14:00 - Digital retailing and e-fulfillment
challenges
Stuart Scott, solutions marketing lead, Zebra
Technologies, Singapore
As retailers complete for customer loyalty in an increasingly
digital and connected world, one of the key differentiators is
delivery. How to get products to customers where and when
they want them? This has been one of the areas where
physical stores have held the advantage over online stores.
However, now online stores are fighting to narrow the gap
by offering time-definite delivery windows that match the
customer’s busy lifestyle. The Internet of Things (IoT) will
offer opportunities to optimise supply chains by connecting
real-time track-and-trace technologies.
14:15 - E-commerce in Europe – consumer
behaviour and business opportunities
Olof Källgren, market information manager, Direct
Link, Sweden
The presentation will cover an extensive survey of consumer
e-commerce habits and business opportunities in twelve
European countries. The study reveals that 240 million
consumers in the surveyed European countries bought
physical goods online to a value of €170bn. What products
are the Europeans buying online, how do they want to pay
for them and how do they want their products delivered?
The presentation will answer these questions and many
others that are vital for those who are contemplating a
European market launch.
Treve Evans, group CEO, Universal Express Group,
United Arab Emirates
15:45 - Cross-border shipping: a North
American perspective
John Currah, global partnership development lead,
Canada Post, Canada
Simplifying cross-border shipping enables growth for postal
administrations as well as commercial partners.
16:00 - Innovations in e-commerce deliveries
Peter Winslow, vice president, Greater China,
MetaPack, Hong Kong
Case studies of some of the innovative ways carriers are
meeting e-commerce customers’ delivery requirements
from around the world.
16:15 - Exceed your future customer demands
Finn Mathiassen, market unit director, Lyngsoe
Systems, Denmark
E-commerce drives new customer demands and
expectations. Customers expect transparency throughout
the delivery process, with relevant and timely status
updates and options to choose delivery times and places.
In this highly demanding world, differentiation from your
competitors will allow you to stay ahead and succeed.
Enabling high-level information and visibility throughout
this process can create this competitive edge. Item-level
tracking will allow you to achieve this in a cost-effective
way. This presentation will discuss the use of innovative
technology to support your business in unlocking the
challenges surrounding last-mile fulfillment.

10:00 - Panel Discussion
10:15 - 10:45 - Refreshment Break
INNOVATION & TRENDS SESSION
10:45 - Intelligent growth through continuous
innovation
Khalid Sadki, head of sales Asia Pacific, Escher
Group, Ireland
Escher Group is the market leader in point of service
software to the postal industry. The postal industry
is undergoing unprecedented changes. Global parcel
delivery and e-commerce trade are powering enormous
growth potential for posts. Done right, the rewards will be
considerable, bringing in new revenue streams, improving
customer service and extending business reach with
the possible addition of alternative collection points for
e-commerce deliveries and transaction services. This
presentation will focus on identifying the opportunities
for posts and how with the right solutions in place they
can reap the benefits in offering innovative products and
services to their customers across existing and new points
of presence.
11:00 - How automated identification can boost
tracking capabilities
Lars Horsboel, sales director, logistic systems,
Beumer Group, Denmark
Positive growth in e-commerce places increasing demands
on postal organizations to improve tracking capabilities as
well as the flexibility of parcel deliveries. In a sector where
companies provide increasingly sophisticated forms of
delivery alternatives for e-commerce, the competitive factor
is to supply the end customers with parcels wherever they
want them. This could mean having more than one delivery
address, which puts significant pressure on organizations
to be flexible. Full automation is the key, and software
needs to be used more to improve automated identification,
including a high degree of tracking data for items in the
logistics chain.
11:15 - Send. Receive. Connect. Meeting
customer needs in a multi-channel
communications environment
Chris Hockey, managing director, Neopost Asia
Pacific, Singapore
Neopost is one of the world leaders in facilitating the
development of global e-commerce. Taking examples
from regional market trends and product innovation, Chris
Hockey will demonstrate how the effective combination of
intuitive data management and leading-edge technology can
harness the potential for growth in a multi-channel world.
11:30 - How postal and logistics systems can
partner in reforming economies
John Knorr, CEO, Uglii Corporation Limited,
Australia
The Uglii Spatial Marketplace System enables all
governments and businesses to buy government and
business inputs using Uglii procurement processes
without language barriers, with increased efficiency,
greater competition to supply and reduced corruption.
For governments, Uglii processes means savings and
increased funds to reduce debt, to invest in infrastructure
and increased investment in education. For businesses
Uglii’s procurement processes mean lower costs, increased
profits, higher dividends to shareholders and higher tax
payments to governments without raising taxes. Postal and
logistics systems can be the main drivers of these reforms
while earning generous commissions while protected by
Uglii’s patents.

Zealand Post, New Zealand
16:30 - Panel Discussion
The reinvention of traditional postal operators is
intrinsically linked to the booming growth in e-commerce.
So how does a postal operator increase customer value
by leveraging the e-commerce opportunity? Definitions of
customers are also changing, and we need to move away
from the traditional operational excellence discussion to
customer experience ones.
14:30 - How to make the world smaller
Yue Xing, director, public affairs, Cainiao, Alibaba
Group, China
With strong demands from customers worldwide for XBEC,
it is critical for the logistics industry to innovate on the
business mode, and cooperate worldwide to adapt to the
change. The presentation will share Alibaba’s observations
on the latest developments of XBEC, and how its smart

DAY 1 WEDNESDAY 13TH MAY
RETAIL & E-COMMERCE ASIA
2015 Global e-commerce sales are expected to hit US$1.5tr by
the end of this year. For the first time ever, Asia Pacific will
become the largest market, surpassing North America,
with sales expected to reach US$525.2bn, compared to
US$482.6bn in the US. That threatens traditional retailers,
since Southeast Asia’s consumers are already visiting
online retailers 41 times for every single visit to traditional
platforms, despite obstacles such as poor retail logistics
systems and limited credit card usage. This is why retailers
must adopt an integrative approach to e-commerce if
they aim to thrive in today’s cutthroat consumer market.
As expected, online retailers, which have already gained
market share on brick and mortar stores, will flourish
as more and more users get Web access. The upcoming
e-commerce trend in the region is mobile shopping. The
growth potential for mobile shopping is significant: Asia
Pacific smartphone penetration is highest in Hong Kong
and Singapore at 87%, followed by Malaysia (80%), Australia
(75%) and China (71%). In this event, the dialogues and
panel discussions aim to discuss upcoming trends and
share the challenges and opportunities that arise from the
booming e-commerce industry from a logistics and last mile
fulfilment point of view.
Lily Loo, vice president - Group Customer Service,
Singapore Post, Singapore
With the transformation of Singapore Post into a
regional champion for eCommerce logistics and trusted
communications, we recognise the need to change
the way we engage and serve the customer. We took a
holistic approach to customer service, and also worked
on transforming mindsets across the company. In this
session, we first take a look at the impetus for postal
companies to make customer centricity their core DNA in a
highly competitive market and then share insights into our
customer centric journey, offering very practical ideas to
anyone who desires to start a similar journey.

e-Commerce in Asia | Supply Chain Asia
14:30 - 15:30 - Industry Dialogue – Connecting
the Digital Consumer Consumer
16:15 - Putting the E in e-commerce
Consumers are becoming more connected through the
explosion of social media and mobile devices. The impact of
this phenomenon meant that brands can no longer stop the
viral impact of a good and/or bad news about their products.
This can have significant impacts on the sales & operations
structures of brands and manufacturers, possibly causing
supply chain networks to break. Panelists will discuss the
challenges they faced within their organisations and how
they are preparing their corporate environment against the
growth of the “digitally connected consumer”.
Paul Donohoe, Electronic Postal Services
Moderator - Paul Lim, founder/president, Supply
Asia Pacific is a major market with great diversity. This
diverse region alreadyboasts the largest number of online
buyers in the world. It accounts for anestimated 28 per cent
of total sales of B2C e-commerce. Taking into account its
huge population, there is considerable scope for further
expansion. Enhancement of customer experience at the last
mile delivery is critical. Initiatives have been brought up and
well received. But some may still require further thoughts.

“Uberisation” of e-Commerce Last Mile
Logistics Management
UBER has changed the way people move around and
connected the last mile transportation for taxi and its
patron. The development of “point-to-point” drop offs may
just “evolutionised” the concept of hub-and-spokes DC as
well as “milk run” operations. Last mile remains a major
factor to trigger the explosion of e-Commerce growth and
with the technological innovation and ease of entry by new
start ups, it is envision that last mile fulfillment may just
change the way e-Commerce plays in the near future.

Lim Ann Lee, Senior Vice President, Logistics
Business, Singapore Post, Singapore
Steve Lam, CEO, Gogo Van, Hong Kong
Norm Berda, Founder/CEO, RocketUncle, Singapore
Roland Martin, Vice Presidenet, Swisslog, Singapore
This presentation will describe the challenges of dynamic
routing and present answers to frequent questions. Should
dynamic routing be limited to bringing daily changes to
predefined territories or include a complete territorial
redesign? How can delivery efficiency be increased and
daily discrepancies between routes minimised? What are
the key building blocks for dynamic routing to succeed
when implementing a route-planning solution in a complex
environment?
09:45 - A flexible solution to reduce the lastmile delivery cost
Pierre Patry, marketing & communication director,
Solystic SAS, France
Since the end of 1990s, Solystic has constantly developed
innovative solutions to increase the efficiency of the
last-mile delivery for different postal object flows (letters,
flats, and recently mixed mail) and therefore to reduce the
associated costs that represent roughly 40% of the total
processing cost. Due to the e-commerce increase, the
high quantity of parcels requires an innovative approach
to efficiently handle the delivery of postal objects to the
addressee. The presentation will discuss the specific
requirements and the key components of the solution to
respond to these objectives.
10:00 - Find a solution for the last mile in
China
Ming Cui, executive director, Beijing APM Limited,
China
China has become one of the largest nations in the world
in e-commerce; every day there are millions parcels being
moved around the nation. The last mile solutions are huge
challenges for all. Until recently, the most popular last
mile solution was still provided by migrant farmers using
all means of transportation from tricycle to horse. The 21st
century has created new social issues from traffic to safety,
and has added more cost in terms of human resources
and management. Technology will be the answer to these
challenges.

demanding!
Moderator - Derek Osborn, CEO, Whatnext4U, UK
09:30 - Dynamic routing enables postal agility
Philippe Aquin, account director, Giro, Canada
Dynamic routing – the ability to create, sequence or
rebalance routes on a daily basis – is one method for
posts to stay agile when dealing with increasing volumes.
11:00 - Survival strategies in a time when
e-commerce disrupts the logistics business
Henrik Gedde Moos, founder, Swipbox, Denmark
Three survival strategies: 1) Dig in and do nothing – hoping
your other businesses will compensate for the losses in
BtC; 2) Adapt – take on the challenge of the disruption, be
agile and take advantage of the new opportunities; 3) Run –
leave the e-commerce business and focus on B2B, hoping
that no one else decides the same. Every survival strategy
holds risks, opportunities and chance of survival. Only one
will make you a winner in e-commerce. The paper covers
how a series of innovative products bundled together in a
full service solution enables large couriers to adapt to the
disruption.

France
There is a natural convergence of interest between postal
operators who need to operate in increasingly constrained
environments in urban areas and Renault, which is the
European leader in electric vehicles. With more than 55,000
electric vehicles on the road, several thousand of them in
logistics operations on all continents, Renault will explain
how to introduce electric vans to fleets from a very concrete
standpoint.

PARCEL HUB DEVELOPMENT
AND LOGISTICS
09:30 - Parcel Hub Developments - footprint
optimization
Shardul Kiran Trevedi, head of sales & proposal
management, Siemens Postal, Parcel and Airport
Logistics Ltd. , Germany
As E-commerce continues to grow, the pressure of
processing more items in the same timeframe becomes
more challenging. Mr. Shardul Trivedi will discuss in his
presentation how items are processed in a bulk flow and
how to achieve a higher throughput.
09:45 - Trends and developments in the parcel
and postal industry
Willem Thielsch, director parcel & postal,
Vanderlande, Netherlands
Which trends and developments in the parcel and postal
industry are changing our business and are of such impact
that new developments are a necessity? This presentation
answers these questions.
10:00 - Meet the challenge of e-commerce
using small-parcel sortation
Maurice Rochman, president, GBI Intralogistics
Solutions, USA
The challenge of sorting mail has changed with the advent
of the internet. Letters were replaced with email, and the
proliferation of e-commerce purchases put a strain on
meeting small-parcel sorting demands. Mail centers were
not prepared to handle this huge increase in volume. Large
parcels are handled on larger sorting machines that may be
inadequate for handling these smaller parcels. The addition
of a high-speed small-parcel sorter will efficiently and
accurately handle small parcels while adding capacity to
the mail center by shifting the load from the larger package
sorters.
All presentations will be in English
10:15 - Your B2C gateway to China by SF
Express
Richard Li, vice president, Ecommerce Service BU,
SF Express (Group) Co Ltd, China
When online shopping from overseas became more popular
for Chinese customers, it caused soaring demand for
various products imported from overseas countries to end
customers in China. The huge Chinese consumer market
and fevered import B2C business opportunity create more
critical requirements for logistic solutions. The solution
must match the various features of the B2C business:
professional logistic route design, strict products multisku control, efficient customs clearance, on-time domestic
delivery and economical cost. As a result, the leading
Chinese logistic and supply chain company, SF Express, has
custom designed a new solution for inbound B2C business,
called SF GLOBAL.
10:30 - Reinventing the parcel delivery
network of PostNL
Lars Pruijn, project manager logistic strategy,
PostNL/Prime Competence, Netherlands
In this age of massive transformation for posts, how to
approach network design, existing infrastructure and new
requirements to meet the realities and opportunities in
the market? Here we follow the story of PostNL, which
has embarked on a radical plan for the future of parcel
deliveries in the Netherlands.

11:00 - 11:30 - Refreshment break
11:30 - Automating the parcel distribution
center in a world of e-commerce
Lars Horsbol, sales director, logistic systems,
Beumer Group, Denmark
Due to declining letter volumes and strong growth in parcel
handling resulting from e-commerce, postal organizations are
downsizing from previously high volumes of easy-to-automate
items to those that are far more difficult to automate. The
strong growth in e-commerce is increasing the variety of items
in the parcel distribution center, putting growing pressure
on the efficiency of the parcel sorting solutions. But the
postal organizations are not only looking for systems that can
automate the variety of items in the sorting process; they are
also looking for cost-effective solutions that reduce cost per
sorted item to an absolute minimum.
11:45 - E-commerce’s impact on local supplychain operation and management
Koh Juay Meng, director sales, Asia, Vitronic
Machine Vision, Singapore
Supply-chain operation is trying to match the growth
of e-commerce and ensure that customer demands for
timely and accurate supply are delivered as promised. How
can supply-chain alignment needs and the challenges of
e-commerce that grow more quickly than physical supplychain operation of planning, sourcing, delivery and return
balance this trend? Will the use of enabling technologies,
such as analytics, state-of-the-art sortation systems,
cameras for reading, decoding of barcodes, video coding
systems and OCR improve the process and supply what’s

operating costs
Jin-Kit Koh, business development director,
Payvision, Singapore
Simon Dalton, business development director,
Lockheed Martin, UK
Logistics and parcels operators need to reduce operating
expenditure to remain competitive and increase efficiency
to handle increasing volumes. This presentation looks
at practical approaches to big data analytics, taking an
example from letter operations and showing how this can
be applied to parcels and logistics to identify efficiencies in
the operation and improved quality of service.
12:15 - Building bridges into the future

Asia-pacific has over taken both the USA and Europe as the
largest e-Commerce market. However, there are multiple
growth engines in the region, and some are a lot bigger than
others, whilst certain one will be very high growth due to
favourable factors including demographics and geo-political
changes. Overall, Asia-pacific will become bigger than USA
and Europe combined. Cross-border e-Commerce is the
essential growth element within all the growth engines in
Asia.

10:30 - A journey to the doorstep of the
Chinese consumer
Wouter de Haan, B2C Europe, Singapore
China’s cross-border e-commerce market is booming.
After years of domestic e-commerce growth and innovation,
with domestic companies raising the bar year after year,
China is now also a force to be reckoned with in B2C
cross-border commerce. Driven by the strong demand
amongst consumers for foreign goods, and the desire of
local marketplaces to facilitate the sales of foreign goods,
the government has taken note and implemented new
regulation that is paving the way for controlled commercial
import. With the recent launch of its ‘China Inbound Service’
B2C Europe is offering sellers outside of China a smooth
and easy way to get their products at the doorstep of the
Chinese consumer.

EUROPE - CROSS-BORDER
ECOMMERCE
11:30 - Cross-border ecommerce
opportunities in key European markets
Jin-Kit Koh, business development director,
Payvision, Singapore
The Established but largely divided market in Europe is a
popular choice for cross- border e-commerce. Europeans
love to shop online on foreign sites. UK, Germany and
France are still the top 3 attractive e-commerce countries
in Europe.
11:50 - Selling into Europe requires
localisation of payments methods
Jin-Kit Koh, business development director,
Payvision, Singapore
One of the key aspects of international e-commerce is to
offer consumers a user friendly shopping experience and
the quickest way to achieve that is through localisation.
Translation only offers part of the solution, mastering
customers preferred online payment methods will enable
retailers to build trust between them and their customers
especially in Europe where every country has its own
specificities.
12:10 - How to make your logistics part of the
customer experience
Wouter de Haan, B2C Europe, Singapore
With domestic e-commerce reaching a mature stage,
www.parcel-expo.com
many European sellers are looking over the border for
new opportunities. At the same time, strong brands and
marketplace sellers from the US and China are expanding
their presence to get a piece of the lucrative European
market. However, with its 28 different countries, a multitude
of languages and national regulations, Europe can be tricky
territory to navigate. With 15 years of experience in the
market, B2C Europe has built up all the expertise to help
sellers reach European consumers, and gain market share

DAY 2 THURSDAY 14TH MAY
THE FUTURE OF THE PARCEL
INDUSTRY - STRATEGIC
PLENARY
Moderator - Paul Vogel, director, Postal and
Logistics, Deloitte LLP Global Office, USA
14:00 - Future-proofing the parcel: Customer
at the centre
Dr Wolfgang Baier, group chief executive officer,
Singapore Post Limited, Singapore
The parcel business is growing exponentially and we need
a brave, new approach. A paradigm shift. We need to
place the customer at the centre and build an integrated
e-commerce ecosystem around customer needs. The
challenge presented by the global mail decline is an
opportunity to refocus on the customer more than ever.
This means we need to build, and constantly refine, our
technologies, geographic footprints and digital platforms.
All the services we innovate need to have the customer –
not the parcel – at the centre.
14:15 - Fulfilling the potential of the last mile
Dr Arne Jeroschewski, vice president business
development, DHL eCommerce, Singapore
Any delivery provider wishing to be sustainably successful
will need to realise that last-mile fulfillment will be key to
success. The future is in the opportunities arising from the
Asian e-commerce market, and providers will need to meet
merchants’ and consumers’ expectations, providing full
coverage with regard to services and value chain to ensure
best-in-class e-commerce logistics services.
14:30 - Exciting strategy changes in the UPU
Murray Buchanan, director of regulation, Economics
and Markets, UPU - Universal Postal Union,
Switzerland
The UPU strategy points the way towards 2020 for the
global postal network- innovation is a prerequisite for
the future of the postal sector; integration of networks
products and services is key to building a seamless postal
network; postal services are drivers for inclusive and
sustainable development. How will the UPU strategy meet
the demands of the changing global environment and
deliver a postal world in which the sector’s unique ability to
include populations, economic actors and regions is fully
recognised and exploited by governments, postal operators
and international organisations?
14:45 - Defend and expand – driving postal
growth
Dr Herbert-Michael Zapf, CEO and president,
International Post Corporation, Belgium
As traditional mail volumes are further declining, posts
are increasingly relying on e-commerce as a key driver for
growth. Two-thirds of e-commerce sales already have an
international dimension; by 2020, cross-border e-commerce
is set to increase by 75%, with increasing flows from
and to Asia. The presentation will address some of the
e-commerce challenges and opportunities for posts. How
will e-commerce evolve further? How can posts fully exploit
the e-commerce growth potential? How can posts build on
their domestic strengths to meet the global challenge?

SIEMENS
Siemens will showcase its VarioSort
Twin system at PARCEL-EXPO Asia
Pacific. It has two cross belts on the
carrier instead of one, making one
carrier perfectly suited to transporting
two smaller items at a time, thereby
making the best use of valuable space
on the sorter and its carriers. The
overall floor space consumption within
the site can then be optimized
accordingly. The VarioSort Twin
measures 19 inches in length and 15
inches in width, and can handle up to
33 lb or 66 lb with heavy-duty
package, making it suitable for most
smaller items that are widely
circulated in the e-commerce industry.
For VarioSort Twin, engineers from
Siemens Logistics and Airport Solutions
integrated proven elements from the
VarioSort EXB platform. One of these is
an especially efficient power
transmission. The power supply of the
carrier is provided by an industrial
standard and highly reliable bus bar
system. Just every 23rd carrier needs
power brushes to distribute the power
to the other 22 sorter carriers via
power cable connections.
The system is cost efficient owing to
high power efficiency (nearly 100%). It
is easy to maintain, and the system is
exposed to low levels of wear and tear,
thus ensuring a long lifetime to secure
investment costs.
When service providers choose the
VarioSort EXB platform, they are
assured of a system that has proved its
value in sorting and distribution
centers. The use of sturdy components
and a low-maintenance design
increase the solution’s reliability.
Finally, VarioSort Twin can be flexibly
tailored to customers’ needs.
