Writing a Personal Statement for your University Placement Service (UPS) Application Your personal statement should be at least 300 to 600 words. Include: Why you are interested in the course/major Why you want to study in the UK What makes you a good student: why should the university accept you? Your hobbies and interests Your skills and achievements Your long term career and study plans How your previous study has prepared you for the course Volunteer or work experience you may have Remember to: Ask a friend, tutor or UPS Co-ordinator to read through it to spot any mistakes Check the spelling Check your grammar and punctuation Avoid short or overly long sentences Write at least 300 words Include examples in as many of the ‘include’ bullet points above as you can Do NOT include the name of any university (the University of Liverpool, or UPS universities) .Your application will be sent to all 3 universities at the same time. Try not to include your name, date of birth, contact details: they already have this information on the UPS. IMPORTANT: You must not plagiarise your personal statement. Your personal statement must be your own, original writing. Do not copy from a friend, or copy any parts of your personal statement from the internet. Universities can use software to detect this and will reject your application if it is found to be plagiarised. You can also find help and examples of personal statements on the UPS website:
