Benediction YOUTH WEEK 2015 Dear Brethren, Receive Christian greetings from the PCEA Head Office, Youth Department. Another time has come for the Youth Department to share with you on the progress of youth work within the Church. The Youth Department has continued to function at all levels through the great assistance and partnership of the entire Church. We extend our appreciation for this great gesture over the years. Mission Work (a) Mabati Campaign Project I and II The Youth Department scaled up the height of mission work over the last one year. The department mounted a major mission excursion at Mathioya Parish, Othaya Presbytery, Mt. Kenya Region. The department conducted a mabati campaign Project 1, that yielded in the construction of PCEA Kora Church in Mathioya Parish. During this particular mission a total of 1064 persons were encountered and 80 souls came to the Lord. The Semi Permanent Worship Centre was commissioned by the Deputy Secretary General and Othaya Presbytery on 29th June, 2014. The Department will be conducting mabati project II for construction of a Church at Kangundo Nendeni Area, Nairobi East Presbytery - June 2015. b) Operation Timothy Program (O.T.P) The words of Martin Luther King Jnr. “Faith is taking the first step even when you don't see the whole staircase”. The O.T.P. th initiative by the Youth Department which is celebrating its 8 birthday is a testimony, an impact creating program locally born. To date, the program is assisting 53 students access their high school, college and university education. Fifteen of these are the YOUTH WEEK 2015 current form ones recruited in January 2015. This sponsorship and mentorship program is cutting across the Church. (More detailed information at a later page) c) Recruitment and Commissioning The Youth Department in conjunction with Parish Sessions conduct this important ceremony. Upon recommendation from the parishes through Presbyterials and regions, the department conducts training for those who are ready to take the vows. During the first phase, the candidates are issued with cards, bearing their names, Parish and Presbytery and the date of recruitment. After a successful completion of period determined by the Parish Session, the candidate undertakes the second set of vows upon which they are issued with a badge. At this point the candidate should be a communicant in the Church. The department has introduced a trainers of trainers (TOT) Program, that has brought on board persons who work with the Regional Youth Workers to prepare youth for recruitment and commissioning. To date every region has three (3) such persons. d) Theme for 2015 The theme for the Youth this year is derived from Colossians 3:17 that states “And whatever you do whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him”. The christian life should be characterized by gratefulness and thank giving expressed through what is done and said. In every motion and direction, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus – Do it because he requires and commands it and with a desire to honour him. His authority should be the warrant, His glory the aim of all our actions and words. Our actions should be accompanied by thanksgiving. e) Youth Week 2015 Youth Week is scheduled for Monday 27th April to Sunday 3rd May, 2015.
