General Information
The Town of Portugal Cove – St. Philip’s is looking for you to join our Recreation
Team for the summer. We offer a variety of programs for children ages 4 - 12.
Working with the Town has great opportunities for training in various areas,
along with providing experiences in teamwork, public relations, skill
development and much more. If you think you’re a motivated, energetic
individual apply now, don’t miss the deadline!

 Read through the job descriptions and complete the application at the end
 Submit the application along with your resume, including two references

Employment Information:
 Must be attending secondary or post-secondary institute full time, with
plans to attend in the Fall 2015
 Leadership qualities and good communication skills
 Previous experience with children
 Valid First Aid Certificate
 Current Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC)Certificate of Conduct
 Some positions will require a valid driver’s license and daily access to a
vehicle
 Positions are based on a 40 hour work week, with flexibility allotted for
evenings and weekends (when necessary)
 Mandatory training/orientation will take place beginning June 29. Staff
must be available to attend
 Staff will be required to work on Canada Day for the Town’s events

Program Descriptions
Day Camp
 The Town of Portugal Cove – St. Philip’s offers a 8 week summer Day
Camp Program to participants ages 7 – 12. The program includes daily
outings, guest speakers, activities all of which are planned by summer
staff. Spend your summer with children promoting cooperative play,
weekly themes, educational experiences and much more.
Kinderskills
 The Kinderskills program runs full days however only two days a week,
for children ages 4 – 6 years old. In this program staff are responsible to
plan age appropriate activities that are both creative and physical. On days
with no program, staff will work with the Day Camp.
Public Works/Maintenance
 This position will work mainly outside, caring for the Town’s parks,
playgrounds, and facilities during the summer months. Staff will report to
the Recreation Director alongside the Public Works Department in
ensuring a clean and beautiful town for the summer.

Summer Programs Coordinator
Responsibilities:
 Shall prepare the groundwork for the recreation program and implement
department policy.
 Prepare and plan schedules for Day Camp
 Prepare the public relations material and begin the registration process.
 Conduct employee interviews and assist in the selection of employees.
 Shall prepare and plan Community Events and programs.
 Responsible for inventory management, direct management of employees
and programs throughout the summer.
 Act as the liaison/communication link between staff members and the
Recreation Department.
 Prepare formative and summative evaluations of all staff members.
 Prepare a final report on the summer activities/special events with
suggestions and recommendations for the following year.
 Assist the Recreation Department on a day-to-day basis and perform other
related duties.

Provide leadership and supervision to participants
Plan and oversee day to day activities with programs
Organizing activities, outings, daily schedules
Provide a safe environment for participants in programs
Good customer service skills and problem solving abilities
Other assigned duties include: assisting with Town Special events

Public Works/Maintenance Worker
Responsibilities:
 The preparation and maintenance of all parks, fields, playgrounds,
canteens, washrooms and other recreational facilities in the town.
 The operation of equipment such as lawn mowers, aerators, trimmers and
garden tools to maintain parks, fields and facilities.
 The maintenance of equipment to ensure it is in good running condition.
 Assist with the beautification of parks, playgrounds, and recreation
facilities, and assist with other municipal beautification projects as directed
by the Director of Recreation and the Town Foreman.
 Performs a variety of outside activities associated with maintenance of
town facilities..
 Good customer service skills and problem solving abilities
 Other assigned duties include: assisting with Town Special events
Qualifications (can be completed once successfully hired):
