From the Pastor…
“We have found the Messiah!” So exclaimed Andrew to his brother, Simon Peter, as he brought
his brother into the presence of Jesus Christ (John 2:41).
“We have found Him of whom Moses and the prophets wrote!” So proclaimed Philip to
Nathanael the next day. In the face of Nathanael’s protests, Philip simply said, “Come and
see!” (John 2:45-46).
“I have seen the Lord!” So announced Mary Magdalene after seeing Jesus alive once
again after His crucifixion (John 20:18).
“My Lord and my God!” So confessed and professed Thomas when he saw the pierced
hands and side of Jesus, his Savior (John 21:28).
The Gospel according to John is full of reaction moments: someone sees Jesus, and that person
cannot help but tell someone else. Perhaps this is yet another reason the Evangelist calls Jesus
“the Light”—light naturally reflects and shines wherever it radiates. When God brought us to
faith, He in effect made us mirrors—reflectors of Jesus Christ!
This Easter Sunday as we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord, we find the Messiah! We
find Him of whom Moses and the prophets wrote! We see the Lord! We joyfully exclaim, “My
Lord and my God!” As sinners who have been chained in the slavery of our sin and who have
been burst free from those bonds when Jesus burst from the tomb, we rejoice, resounding with
all the vault of heaven, reflecting the light of Christ that shines on us!
Imagine what would happen this Eastertide if every member of Peace Lutheran Church reflected
this Good News—this News beyond any superlative description!—to just one other person and
brought that brother or sister into Jesus’ presence here!
Imagine what would happen this Easter season if every single member of Peace Lutheran
Church brought just one other person to come and see Jesus with us!
Take a moment to consider just one other person you want to see sitting next to you in the
pew. What face is missing as you look around God’s family at Peace? Whose face do you most
desperately desire to see basking in the light of Christ?
Over the course of the Great Fifty Days of Easter, this season up through Pentecost (24
May), I heartily encourage you to both invite and bring one special person with you to Peace
Lutheran Church. Jesus Christ died and rose again for all people—each and every one of us.
Who is one person God has placed in your life on whom you can reflect Jesus’ light?
It may seem a difficult, awkward task, but you are not alone. God goes with you in His
Holy Spirit; He promises to give you the words you need. God’s Church is designed to help you
as you go and make disciples; you can always feel free to call for help!
We have seen the Lord—come and see! Come and see Him as He comes to us in His Word!
Come and see Him as He comes to us truly and physically in the bread and wine of His Supper!
Come and see—He is risen, just as He said! He is risen, indeed! Alleluia!
Your fellow servant in Christ,
Pastor Schneider
