April 2015 - prince edward fitness & aquatic centre
In April, we are exposed to many great things- Warmer weather, new growth, NO SNOW! (..we hope) and longer daylight hours. We all look forward to these things, but there is one other thing April brings us that can set a lot of us back after working so hard in the health and wellness aspect. Easter holidays, although not celebrated by all, still can bring big meals, family get-togethers and 50% off chocolate! While indulging in the many yummy treats we can come across over a long holiday weekend can be harmless, it can also be deteriorating to some and their goals and plans they want to achieve. Let’s enjoy our holidays but remember that excess drinking and eating can leave us feeling let down. No amount of chocolate is worth the hard work and determination you have worked so hard for! If you choose to indulge, do not regret it and be proactive about it! Throughout this newsletter, there will be tips and tricks to stay on track, exercises you can do when you’re on the go and how we can keep achieving our goals! Our new group fitness schedule is beginning April 6th and we will be offering a great range of exercises to get you back on track after the weekend! New classes being added and adjustments made to accommodate more dates/times. www.pefac.ca for schedule 1. Avoid drinking away your calorie budget. Opt to drink water with your meals and choose a low cal/low sugar non- alcoholic or alcoholic beverage. 2. Be mindful of the extras. Just ½ cup whipped topping adds 220 calories, while desserts can add 150-500 calories. While it is OK to eat these foods, moderation is key! 3. Develop an eating strategy. Eat slowly, use a small plate to encourage selection of smaller serving sizes, take time between bites and enjoy the conversation, move away from the food table and wait 15-20 minutes before going back for seconds. It takes 20 minutes for your brain to understand you are full. 4. Don’t skip meals. Skipping meals can slow metabolism while eating one large meal will encourage fat storage. Be certain to include extra fiber such as fruits, vegetables and whole grains in your diet Avoid 50% off chocolate-when going to the grocery store, have a wholesome snack before to keep your mind off food and stay focused. Write a list and stick to it! Prince Edward Fitness & Aquatic Centre ~ 13263B Loyalist ~ Picton ~ Avoid the Parkway candy aisle!
