Our Mission
First, it is our mission to provide love, a
sense of security, warmth and comfort to
children who are seriously ill,
traumatized, or otherwise in need
through the gifts of new, handmade
blankets and afghans, lovingly created
by volunteer “blanketeers.”
Second, it is our mission to provide a
rewarding and fun service opportunity
for interested individuals and groups in
local communities, for the benefit of
children.
Letter from the Coordinator
I had the best intentions of getting this newsletter out much sooner… but
sometimes life doesn’t go according to plan. Along with caring for a new
baby, my mother (who always helps me out with all of the Linus work) has
been battling breast cancer. I’ve been caring for her and my father so my
time has been a bit limited. Thank you for being patient and understanding
while I go through some adjustments. So, finally, here is the end of the year
wrap up- better late than never as they say. Please read on to learn about our
most productive quarter yet.
It is also bittersweet to announce that I will soon be stepping down as
coordinator and shortly, moving to New York City. My husband has been
offered an exciting job opportunity and so we are off to the East Coast. I am
looking for a replacement to carry on the important mission of Project Linus
here in the Coachella Valley and I am hoping it might be one of you or
someone you know. This is a wonderful charity and I need someone to step
forward to coordinate the chapter’s activity. If you are interested in learning
more about the coordinator position or know someone who may be
interested, please speak with me! If a replacement cannot be found, the
chapter will unfortunately have to close. Let’s keep Linus going here in the
desert! Please contact me for more information! I promise, it’s a great gig!
Sincerely,
Holly Kahle, Chapter Coordinator

Fundraising Thank You’s
Our chapter would like to give thanks to the following groups for their recent
financial contributions: Desert Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, Knitting Guild
of the Desert, Sun City Palm Desert BZB’s and the Mom’s Club of Indio/South La
Quinta.
Financial donations to our chapter are primarily used for yarn, fabric, and other
supplies for blanketeers to create more blankets for children in our community.
Funds are also used to cover costs of the newsletter, postage and shipping costs as
they arise.
Project Linus is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. Our chapter is all volunteer run
and relies on the generous contributions of others to keep us operating. If you are
interested in making a financial contribution to our chapter, please contact the
chapter coordinator for details. Checks can be made payable to Project Linus and a
donation receipt can be provided.

Project Linus Fun Facts
Here are some interesting facts and figures about Project Linus:
•
Karen Loucks started Project Linus on December 24, 1995, in Denver, Colorado after reading a magazine article
about a child undergoing chemotherapy and the importance of the child’s “blankie” during treatment.
•
Project Linus nationally has been alive for 6,942 days as of January 1, 2015.
•
Project Linus National has had non-profit status since May 12, 1997.
•
The Coachella Valley chapter of Project Linus started in 2000. As of January 1, 2015, the chapter has donated 33,850
blankets.
•
Project Linus nationally has officially collected over five million blankets since January 1,2014. If 60% of them are
fabric, that translates into over 9 million yards of fabric. If 40% are afghans, that is over 16 million skeins of yarn.
•
If each blanket is an average of 60" long, and we laid them end-to-end, they would stretch over 25 million feet or 4,735
miles. That is as tall as 861 Mt. Everests, or 14,077 One World Trade Center or 20,000 Empire State Buildings or as
long as 75,000 football fields!
