“The Slipcast Object Revisited”
A Juried Exhibition of Slip Cast Ceramic Work
Juror: Heather Mae Erickson
“The Slipcast Object Revisited” is a juried exhibition of work made using slip casting techniques.
This process is undergoing a renaissance in the studio practice of many ceramic artists. Using
computer modeling software, 3D printing, CNC machinery, computer controlled routers as well as
traditional mold making techniques, ceramic artists are pushing the boundaries of what can be made.
This exhibition will present the diversity of slip cast ceramics and its endless possibilities.
Submissions are open for one of kind pieces, production work, and limited editions either sculptural or
functional. See attached Submission Guidelines for more information and to apply.
Plinth Gallery (http://www.plinthgallery.com) opened in 2006 as the vision of owner/curator Jonathan
Kaplan. Plinth Gallery is the only venue along the Colorado Front Range to exhibit contemporary
ceramic art exclusively. The gallery features recognized ceramic artists in solo or group exhibitions
and represents many others on a continuing basis. Plinth Gallery showcases a diversity of ceramic
work, both sculptural and functional that is exceptional in concept and execution. The gallery is
located in the vibrant and exciting River North Art District (RiNo). Visit www.rinoart.com for more
information.
Juror Heather Mae Erickson is an artist, craftsperson and designer.
After earning her BFA at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, she
received her MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art. Following a
residency at the Archie Bray Foundation in Helena, Montana, Erickson
was awarded a Fulbright fellowship to conduct independent research
at Aalto University in Helsinki, Finland. Erickson has held teaching
positions in Philadelphia and Colorado, and is currently assistant
professor of ceramics at Western Carolina University.
Erickson’s work has been shown internationally and is represented in
collections around the world. She has earned numerous awards and
honorable mentions, including an Independence Fellowship for a
residency at The International Ceramic Research Center in Denmark, and
was the 2009-2012 Robert Chapman Turner Teaching Fellow in Ceramic
Art at Alfred University.
In 2005, the original “Slipcast Object” exhibition was presented by
Ceramic Design Group and Jonathan Kaplan in Steamboat Springs
Colorado. Richard Notkin was the juror, and his selections included
installation, sculptural, and functional work. This exhibition was among the
first to feature slip cast work exclusively and was widely recognized. Plinth
Gallery expects this “Revisited” exhibition to far surpass the first one, and
welcomes your submissions.
