Position Description Immigration and Border Protection Position number 200355 Title Airline Liaison Officer Classification Locally Engaged 7 (LE7) Division/Post/Section Port Moresby Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) Reports to (title) Principal Migration Officer Current Occupant Vacant About the Australian High Commission in Port Moresby The Australian High Commission represents the Australian Government by advancing the interests of Australia and Australians in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Our primary national interest is in a strong bilateral relationship underpinned by a peaceful, secure and prosperous PNG and Pacific Region. The High Commission is also responsible for the protection and welfare of Australians in PNG and contributes to Australia’s security through border management and traveller facilitation. About the Immigration and Border Protection The Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) works to keep Australia secure through border management and facilitates travellers to enter Australia on a temporary or permanent basis. DIBP strives to make fair and reasonable decisions for people entering Australia, ensuring compliance with Australia’s immigration laws and integrity in decision-making. The Immigration & Border Protection Office in Port Moresby is responsible for processing all temporary and permanent visa applications lodged by residents of Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. About the role Under limited direction the Airline Liaison Officer will provide a liaison service for local airlines in Papua New Guinea. The key responsibilities include but are not limited to: Establishing, enhancing and maintaining DIBP’s relationships with local airlines and airport staff, representatives of host government agencies and with relevant counterparts; Providing advice for airline staff on improper passport and/or visa documentation and facilitating travel for genuine passengers; Proactively training airline staff in document examination techniques and Australia’s visa and entry systems and requirements; Providing timely and detailed incident reporting to Strategic Border Command Headquarters on passengers intercepted and irregular travel trends; Maintaining a visible presence at international airports as a deterrent to potential improperly documented travellers; Working with Australia’s Strategic Border Command, undertake ALO activities which may include specific tasking in relation to the entry of genuine travellers to Australia. Selection criteria The Statement of Claims must not be longer than 300 words per Selection Criterion to show the applicant’s suitability to each of the following: 1.
