North Island College will be joined by North Island Employment (NIEFS) and Amber Education Services Ltd. to provide information regarding upcoming training at NIC; process and application requirements; and potential financial supports for eligible participants. Available Training Programs: Coastal Forest Resource Program August 24 – December 11, 2015 This program is designed to prepare students to work in the Forest Industry in an entry level capacity. Students will participate in classroom and field activities spanning a broad spectrum of topics and a wide range of hands on tasks. Health and safety in a forest environment, field skills necessary to work in the forest industry, environmental concerns, timber cruising knowledge and skills, and worksite readiness sessions are covered during the program. Industry certifications will be earned in Occupational First Aid Level 1; Transportation Endorsement; WHMIS; Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG); Power Saw Certification; Fire Suppression; Wildfire Entrapment Avoidance; Pumps and Water Delivery Systems; and Restricted Operator Certificate – Aeronautical (ROC-A). Marine Training - July 13 - 29, 2015 North Island College will be delivering Marine Training in-community for qualified individuals who require all of the following courses for employment purposes. Courses included are Marine Emergency Duties Small Passenger Vessel Safety (MED A2); WHMIS; Transportation of Dangerous Goods; Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP); Restricted Operator Certificate - Maritime (ROC-M); Marine Basic First Aid and FoodSafe Level I. Tuition: $575.00 Building Service Worker Levels 1, 2, 3 - July 13 – 21, 2015 This is a comprehensive set of courses beginning with an introduction to the skills required to work in the Building Service Custodial field. Topics include: attitudes, ground rules, WHMIS, blood borne pathogen and sharps safety, hanta virus awareness, basic cleaning chemistry, and cleaning procedures for a variety of settings. You will received further instruction in hard floor care and commercial carpet cleaning. Certifications will be earned in Occupational First Aid Level I, WHMIS and FoodSafe Level I. Tuition: $425.00 Resource Industry Certification Series- August 4 - 14, 2015 The Industry Certification series is designed for individuals who do not presently hold any of the outlined credentials and are seeking industry certification to pursue employment. Training is designed for individuals with limited experience, who have a desire to work in industry. The program is delivered over two consecutive weeks and may include weekend studies. The training consists of Occupational First Aid Level 1; Transportation Endorsement; WHMIS; Forklift Training; Hazard Recognition; Fall Protection; Personal Protective Equipment; Confined Space Pre-Entry; Transportation of Dangerous Goods and Basic Fire Safety. Tuition: $425.00 Training is subsidized by the Ministry of Advanced Education and is aligned with BC’s Skills for Jobs Blueprint
