Promenade Swim Team Summer 2015 Things to remember… The purpose of Promenade Swim Team is to bring together swimmers of all ages and skill levels as a team that fosters friendship, camaraderie, fun, and exercise! Our league is semi-competitive, and although winning is great, our main goal is to have fun! Swim meets are held at Promenade and other beach/pool clubs. Meets are scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday nights (unless otherwise noted) through July. The schedule is available on line at www.promendadebeachclub.com and will be updated regularly as soon as all meets are scheduled. Swim Team is not swim instruction . While practice will focus on stroke development and the fundamentals of team swimming, all swimmers must be able to swim freestyle and breast stroke, with knowledge of backstroke. For swimmers in need of further instruction to develop stroke and technique, private and small group lessons are available. Please see Carrie if you’re interested! Children 6 and under must swim a minimum of a half-length of the pool unassisted. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE will Cabana/Beach house keys be given out at practice. NO EXCEPTIONS! Please come prepared. Swim Team Practice! Practice begins: Monday, June 29th 8:00 a.m. The club does not officially open until 10:00 a.m. As such, please use the restroom prior to the start of practice. Wet bathing suits are not permitted in the lobby area. No parents will be permitted to stay at the club during swim team practice. Also, parents and swimmers must exit through the swim team gate before the club will be opened. 8:00-9:00= 9-10 YOs and 11-16 YOs 9-9:45= 7-8 YOs 9-9:45 Monday and Wednesday = 6/unders. But if you’d like to attend more we’d love to have you! ☺ See Carrie if you have any questions! What do I need to swim? First and foremost, you MUST have a good attitude! Swim team is FUN, but all good fun takes hard work and effort! The best way to cure a chilly pool is to get moving! All swimmers are expected to remain in the pool unless directed otherwise by Carrie or Michelle. *Goggles *Swim Cap (Promenade caps available) *Towel *Suit The team suit is not mandatory, but recommended to promote team spirit! Sport Spot will be at practice on st Wednesday, July 1 at 9:00. THIS IS A NEW SUIT YEAR . You can also visit the store on Route 35 in Shrewsbury. It is also a good idea to mark all personal items with name/locker and/or cabana number! ESPECIALLY GOGGLES! Swim Meet procedures All swimmers will swim at least two races each meet. Relay teams will be made up of the fastest swimmers in each age group. If you know you will be unable to attend a meet, please let the coaches at your earliest conveniencepreferably with at least 24 hours notice . You can always e-mail at promenadeswim@gmail.com or leave a note at the desk. Steps to a successful meet: BEFORE ● Swimmers are expected to check in at the meet site at least 40 minutes prior to the start. ● Warm ups are important and will begin at 5:30 p.m. (Home check in is under the awning closest to the diving board.) You must physically check in with one of the coaches. ● Parents are asked NOT to stay with their child at the team spot unless they are volunteering for the meet. ● Be sure to eat at least an hour before swimming. We can’t have you running on an empty tank! DURING ● Swimmers must stay with the team during the entire meet. We will marshal swimmers from the team area only. o If a swimmer is NOT in the team area when their name is called they will miss the event. Swimmers are expected to be good sportsmen, and this includes team camaraderie in the marshal area. ● Help out where needed. Cheer on other swimmers, cooperate with coaches, be a leader! AFTER ● All swimmers will receive ribbons ☺ Swim meets are scored on heat 1 only. Parent Volunteers We cannot run a successful meet without parent assistance. Parents are expected to help at meets, and the coaches will assign parents it we do not receive enough volunteers. 7 volunteers are required for home meets and 4 for away meets. Please sign up on the swim team board. Jobs are as follows: Starter (1)- At home meets: The starter will welcome everyone at the start of the meet, announce each event and heat, and “start” the race: “Swimmers step up. Swimmers take your mark” blow the WHISTLE. Head Judge (1) At home meets: Watches each race from the scorer table side of the pool and has the final say in close finishes among the six place judges. Place Judges (3) At home and away meets: Judges stand at their designated lane where the race finishes and determines place finishers. Place judges also time swimmers. Ribbon Table (1) At home meets: Sit at scorer table during meet and hand out ribbons to swimmers as they come to the table with place cards. Scorer (1) At home and away meets: Sit at the scorer table and score the meet based on first heat. Weather Practices: Use your discretion - If it is continuously raining or thundering and lightening, do not come to practice. We will also post on the Promenade Facebook wall. Meets: We swim rain or shine- unless it is continuously down pouring or if there is thunder and lightening. Coaches will decide AFTER 4 P.M. ON MEET DAYS regarding cancellations due to weather. We will also post on the Promenade Facebook wall. PBC PIRATES ON DECK…TAKE TWO!! Last year Promenade participated in a swim-a-thon event to raise funds and awareness for the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America. It was great fun for all who joined in, and we even got a personal visit from the MSAA! This year we plan to make an even bigger SPLASH as we “DIVE in and LAP MS” at our last home meet vs. Oceanport, who will also be participating! 100% PARTICIPATION EARNS COACHES IN THE POOL! And we all know how much you LOVE to throw US in! REMEMBER- EVERY LITTLE BIT COUNTS and every LAP is one stroke closer to a world free of Multiple Sclerosis! The “LAP CAP” as well as towels, shirts, bags, phone cases, and wrist bands will be available during practices and the evening of the meet. I’ll also be looking for some extra volunteers to assist this event ☺ Questions or concerns? Please see Carrie or Michelle after practice. GO PROMENADE!
