Papacy Unchanged Despite Apologies!
Prophesy Again Pastor Andrew Henriques www.prophesyagain.com Papacy Unchanged Despite Apologies! Church Needs Eyesalve As Issues Thrust It Into Prominence 1. Let us consider the following quotation. Write your thoughts___________________________________________________________ “Our people have been regarded as too insignificant to be worthy of notice, but a change will come. The Christian world is now making movements which will necessarily bring commandment-keeping people into prominence. There is a constant supplanting of God's truth by the theories and false doctrines of human origin. Movements are being set on foot to enslave the consciences of those who would be loyal to God. The lawmaking powers will be against God's people. Every soul will be tested. Oh, that we would, as a people, be wise for ourselves, and by precept and example impart that wisdom to our children! Every position of our faith will be searched into; and if we are not thorough Bible students, established, strengthened, and settled, the wisdom of the world's great men will lead us astray.” {5T 546.2} 2a. Note: This quotation primarily refers to the time when the Mark of the Beast is enforced. However, in a secondary sense, this quotation is being fulfilled today. Seventh-Day Adventists, commandment-keeping people, are now being brought into prominence. 2b. Note: The current event that confirms this is the announcement from Dr. Ben Carson, a professed Seventh-Day Adventist, that he will run for the president of the United States. http://www.politico.com/story/2015/05/ben-carson-says-he-will-run-for-president-117589.html 3. Many people do not know who Seventh-Day Adventists are and what they believe. However, all eyes will be on the candidates who declare that they will run for the president. And the people will scrutinize the background and especially the religious beliefs of each candidate. 4. Let us read what has already been made public regarding Ben Carson’s announcement to run for president and its effect on the SeventhDay Adventist denomination. “Carson's campaign will definitely put the Seventh-day Adventist Church and its teachings into the spotlight, says Kenny Anderson, a lifelong Adventist who is the multi-cultural affairs officer for Huntsville, Ala. Adventists don't have anything nearly as titillating as polygamy in their history, which Mitt Romney had to contend with from the history of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. But Adventists do have a doctrinal interpretation of the Bible!that points to the Catholic Church and the Pope as the "Anti-Christ" – that is, an earthly power that arrogates to itself authority that rests only with God. ‘As people dig down in the weeds of Adventist beliefs, I think what they'll find will be intriguing, perhaps curious and sometimes disturbing – and Dr. Carson will get associated with all that, whether or not it's a belief he himself holds,’ Anderson said. ‘It's going to create some challenges for him.’" http://www.al.com/opinion/index.ssf/2015/05/ben_carson_sda.html 5a. How will Ben Carson respond publicly when he is questioned about the historic beliefs of Seventh-Day Adventists regarding the principles of the three angels’ messages of Revelation 14:6-12? How will he respond to questions about the seventh-day Sabbath, Babylon and the Papacy, the Mark of the Beast, and the writings of Ellen White being inspired and should be authoritative in the church? 5b. If Ben Carson’s track record is an indication of what he will do in the future, he will bow under the pressure. 5c. Note: Ben Carson retracted his statement that homosexuality is a sin. He also stated that he supports same-sex unions. Note: Ben Carson rejected the Spirit of Prophecy by saying that he does not believe that the earth is approximately 6000 years old. He said that the earth could be 50 billion years. http://www.christianpost.com/news/ben-carson-defines-himself-and-makes-big-impression-atnan-convention-in-nyc-pastor-a-r-bernard-says-hes-a-leader-137228/page2.html 6b. What does the Lord say regarding the age of the earth?_______________________________________________________________ “The great controversy between Christ and Satan, that has been carried forward for nearly six thousand years, is soon to close; and the wicked one redoubles his efforts to defeat the work of Christ in man's behalf and to fasten souls in his snares.” {GC 518.1} “For six thousand years the great controversy has been in progress; the Son of God and His heavenly messengers have been in conflict with the power of the evil one, to warn, enlighten, and save the children of men." {GC 656.1} 7. While we are talking about Ben Carson, the question is, will we be found faithful to Jesus and His truth publicly. What will God’s people encounter in these last days? Luke 21:12-15__________________________________________________________________________ 8a. How will the majority of professed Seventh-Day Adventists react when their historic beliefs are challenged in the public, possibly due to the fact that Ben Carson is running for president? If the Seventh-Day Adventist denomination’s track record is an indication of what they will do in the future, then the majority will give up the truth of Jesus. In the 1950’s the men of Babylon called the Seventh-Day Adventist denomination a cult. The Seventh-Day Adventist leaders responded by publishing the book, “Seventh-Day Adventists Answer Questions on Doctrine.” In that book the church leaders renounced most of the fundamental and historic beliefs, in order to be in harmony with the churches of Babylon. To confirm this read the book, “Letters to the Churches,” by M.L. Andreasen. 1976 statement to a federal court: 8b."Although it is true that there was a period in the life of the Seventh-day Adventist Church when the denomination took a distinctly anti-Roman Catholic viewpoint...that attitude on the church's part was nothing more than a manifestation of widespread anti-popery among conservative Protestant denominations in the early part of this century and the latter part of the last, and which has now been consigned to the historical trash heap so far as the Seventh-day Adventist Church is concerned." http://www.sdadefend.com/Defend-foundation/popemedl.htm 8c. “Seventh-day Adventist faction from Tennessee mailed an unknown number of anti-Catholic booklets (primarily composed of quotations from the book, Great Controversy] the week of July 8 to homes in Indianapolis, where 2,000 (delegates] gathered for the denomination's 55th world convention, July 6-14. ‘Shirley Burton, a spokesperson for the denomination, told the Indianapolis Star daily newspaper the tract was 'trash.' The pamphlet, United States in Prophecy, calls Catholicism a pagan religion and refers to the pope as a beast.’” http://www.sdadefend.com/Defend-foundation/popemedl.htm 8d. What does the Lord say? “It is a backsliding church that lessens the distance between itself and the Papacy.” {ST, February 19, 1894.4} 8e. The following is an important point to ponder. “This brought to mind what had been published in the Eternity Extra, that our men had ‘explained to Mr. Martin that they (the Adventists) had among their number certain members of their ‘lunatic fringe even as there are similar wild-eyed irresponsibles in every field of fundamental Christianity.’ In contrast to this lunatic fringe they had a ‘sane leadership,’ meaning themselves. Eternity Extra, September, 1956, p. 2.” Letters to the Churches, page 53. 9. One of the reasons why the majority of Seventh-Day leaders and people are not and will not preach and teach the distinctive messages of the three angels is that they are afraid to be labelled as intolerant, extremists, and radicals. “When we reach the standard that the Lord would have us reach, worldlings will regard Seventh-day Adventists as odd, singular, strait-laced extremists. ‘We are made a spectacle unto the world, and to angels, and to men.’" {FE 289.1} 10. What happened to Peter at the crisis hour? Luke 22:54--62_____________________________________________________________ 11. But what does the Lord instruct us to do?___________________________________________________________________________ “Men of faith and prayer will be constrained to go forth with holy zeal, declaring the words which God gives them. The sins of Babylon will be laid open. The fearful results of enforcing the observances of the church by civil authority, the inroads of spiritualism, the stealthy but rapid progress of the papal power--all will be unmasked. By these solemn warnings the people will be stirred. Thousands upon thousands will listen who have never heard words like these. In amazement they hear the testimony that Babylon is the church, fallen because of her errors and sins, because of her rejection of the truth sent to her from heaven.” {GC 606.2} 12a. Note: Many people do not believe that the Papacy is still the same persecuting power that we was in the past, specifically from 538 to 1798. Popery has apologized for its wrongs in the past. See the following news articles. They fell into seven general categories of wrongs which include, without being too specific, everything from the Crusades to the Inquisition, the forced conversions, to sins against women and anti- Jewish acts. It was a first for the church, which has only rarely and only in specific instances confessed errors in the past. The pope's sermon offered an explanation for today's day of pardon.” 12b. Since the Lord told us that this would happen, has Popery changed?____________________________________________________ “The Roman Church now presents a fair front to the world, covering with apologies her record of horrible cruelties. She has clothed herself in Christlike garments; but she is unchanged. Every principle of the papacy that existed in past ages exists today. The doctrines devised in the darkest ages are still held. Let none deceive themselves. The papacy that Protestants are now so ready to honor is the same that ruled the world in the days of the Reformation, when men of God stood up, at the peril of their lives, to expose her iniquity. She possesses the same pride and arrogant assumption that lorded it over kings and princes, and claimed the prerogatives of God. Her spirit is no less cruel and despotic now than when she crushed out human liberty and slew the saints of the Most High.” {GC 571.1} 13. When Jesus was nearing the crisis of the cross did He hide it from His disciples? What did He say to them? Luke 18:31-33 ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 17. What is said of the disciples? Luke 18:34____________________________________________________________________________ 18. Likewise, the crisis is coming upon us and the majority of God’s people are ignorant and blind. 19. It is not by accident that the account of Jesus healing the blind man follows Him telling His disciples of the coming crisis. The disciples were spiritually blind as the man was physically blind. 20. Note: Not only was the man blind, he was begging, he was poor, and he was naked (Mark 10:50). 21. What is the condition of lukewarm Laodiceans, God’s professed people in these last days? Revelation 3:17_______________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 22. Note: The disciples, who were the closest to Jesus, were also blind, poor, and naked. 23. As the blind man heard that Jesus was passing by, what did he cry out? Luke 18:36-38_______________________________________ 24. What does Jesus reveal when He passes by us? Exodus 34:5-7_________________________________________________________ 25. As we see the attributes of God’s glory, we should cry out sincerely, “Jesus have mercy on me.” 26. What is the condition in order to receive God’s mercy? Proverbs 28:13____________________________________________________ 27. What were people trying to do that caused the blind man to cry out even more? Luke 18:39____________________________________ 28. As the blind man cried out, what did Jesus do? Luke 18:40______________________________________________________________ 29. What question did Jesus ask the blind man? Luke 18:41________________________________________________________________ 30. What was the blind man’s response? Luke 18:41_____________________________________________________________________ 31. What does Jesus use to restore sight to Laodicea? Revelation 3:17,18____________________________________________________ Note: The eyesalve represents for us in one sense the Spirit of Prophecy. 32. What was Jesus’ response? Luke 18:42____________________________________________________________________________ 33. Once the blind man received sight, what did he do? Luke 18:43_________________________________________________________
