This the ninth annual UM Public Health Research Report. The scholarship and community service information
submitted by public health faculty and students for the period July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2014 is assembled into
this report. The strong scholarship and community service activities documented in this report are evidence of a
high quality educational program in public health.

From the fall of 2013 to June 2014, I was a Teen Outreach Program (TOP) certified facilitator participating in research for the Northwest Coalition
of Adolescent Health on an Office of Adolescent Health grant. The TOP program I ran at Willard Alternative High School was under rigorous
evaluation, assessing and researching the effectiveness of the program on:
1. Reducing teen pregnancy
2. Improving high school graduation rates
3. Improving school performance
4. Reducing school suspensions
In May of 2014, I began research on for my Professional Paper with the MPH program. My research topic was the significance of the introduction
of the Hindu-Arabic zero to the development of the field of epidemiology.
