With this weekend’s sponsor FLIPPING SHIPS on board, Allgaier took to the track on Friday for the only two practice sessions of the weekend, and for knockout qualifying. Allgaier made it to the second round of qualifying and earned the 24th starting spot for the Duck Commander 500. Unfortunately, Allgaier blew a tire with less than 100 laps to go in the race on Saturday. The heavy right-side damage sent the No. 51 FLIPPING SHIPS Chevy to the garage. After looking at the car, crew chief Steve Addington determined the No. 51 FLIPPING SHIPS Chevy was not repairable, and Allgaier ended up finishing in the 39th position for HScott Motorsports. The green flag dropped at TMS as the sun began to set on the 1.5-mile speedway. Within the first 10 laps, Allgaier relayed to crew chief Steve Addington that the No. 51 Chevy was loose turning into the corner and exiting the corner, but tight in the middle. As the laps ticked of, Addington made adjustments to improve the handling of Allgaier’s car. Shortly after the second restart of the evening, Allgaier and another competitor made slight contact. The contact caused the No. 51’s right-rear quarter panel to be pulled. The bowed-out sheet metal was acting as a parachute and greatly upsetting the handling of the FLIPPING SHIPS Chevy, causing longer lap times. The team really needed a caution to allow Allgaier to bring the damaged Chevy down pit road for a quick repair. Unfortunately, a long green-flag run ensued and Allgaier made a scheduled stop. The No. 51 pit crew was able to push the quarter panel back in during the green-flag pit stop and also managed to change four tires and add fuel. Shortly after the repair, Allgaier radioed in that the No. 51 Chevy was back to handling like a normal racecar. By the time lap 200 rolled around, Allgaier communicated that his loose exit condition had turned into being tight on exit. At lap 221, Allgaier brought the FLIPPING SHIPS Chevy down pit road for fuel, tires and adjustments. After two more cautions, Allgaier was on the TMS straightaway when the No. 51 Chevy went into the wall. After initial review, a cut tire seemed to be the culprit. The damage relegated Allgaier to a 39th-place finish in the FLIPPING SHIPS Chevy. Justin Allgaier on Texas Motor Speedway: “We started the weekend off with the FLIPPING SHIPS Chevy in practice with a little bit of work to do. Fortunately, Steve found some things that I really liked going into the race. We were making adjustments to improve the handling of the car during the race. Once we got the handling better, then we had the issue with the quarter panel damage. Anything catching wind at a mile-and-a-half track slows you down so much. Unfortunately, we didn’t get a yellow flag like we needed right away so that we could come down pit road to fix it. The pit crew did a great job during the pit stop to quickly beat the panel back in. Steve made a couple of strategy calls, and then we blew a tire. It was kind of one thing after the other tonight, but it certainly wasn’t from a lack of effort by all of the guys at HScott Motorsports. They’ve been working hard and giving me good cars, we just need a little bit of luck.
