Background Short-‐Term Training Programme on DOCUMENTATION & COMMUNICATION FOR DEVELOPMENT on th th 6 -8 July 2015 at Dehradun Organized by ‘Documentation’ plays an important role in effective functioning and success of an organization. Holistically, it goes beyond the rhetoric of routine reporting on programmes and activities. Documentation of success stories, innovative experiments facilitate intensive learning, training, advocacy, programme planning, public relations, review and sharpening of goal and vision of implementing organization. For NGOs, good command over documentation is also desirable to write grants, processes and final reports of the projects and programmes. Effective communication is the backbone of all developmental activities and crucial for the growth of an organization. A good communication is expected to bring desired change in knowledge, perception or behavior of recipients. Every audience of a written, oral or visual communications receives and internalizes the message differently depending on his/her background and needs. An understanding of these characteristics is important for designing an effective communication strategy including contents, language, mode of transmission, and setting for making communication. Good documentation and communication are also crucial for creating a favorable environment for the programme/project in the organization and the community, continuing or attracting new funding and donors. However, it has been noted that several organizations lack desired skills in preparing good documents, making effective communication, and in spite of doing good work; they are not able to effectively demonstrate it or share with the wider community. Ramana Group, Dehradun is organizing a short-‐term training programme to bridge these gaps by strengthening documentation and communication skills of the programme personnel in NGOs, Government, academic, research and other organizations. The main objectives of this programme are as follows. Course Objectives • To enable participants to understand the nature, type, stages, processes quality and importance of documentation. • To develop understanding of the role of communication in the developmental programs, differences between different types of communications. • • • To impart skills for developing/writing different types of documents including; proposal writing, report writing, regular/progress reports, process documentation, case writing, producing newsletters, digital and audio reporting etc. To equip participants with the knowledge and skills for implementing Management Information System (MIS). To inculcate skills for planning and carrying communication for developmental activities; client segmentation and need assessment, communication strategy, implementing communication programs and, feedback analysis. Learning Outcomes The Ramana Group Ramana Group is a development sector’s lead organization working in South and South East Asia for the past 25 years. It has particular expertise in training and capacity building of programme personnel and community leaders at different levels, programme evaluation, empirical and operations research, strategy planning and policy support. It focus areas include; healthcare, governance, rural development, sustainable livelihood, Panchayati raj, disaster management and other related areas. It has completed more 1500 projects almost in all the sectors of social development and has trained more than 3 lakh professionals across the length and breadth of the country. At the end of this course, participants will have a sound understanding of the major documentation processes and should be able to undertake; proposal development, report writing, MIS etc. work on their own. They should also be clear about various aspects of communications and be able to improve upon their communication intervention programs. Training Delivery Features Training will be delivered in Hindi and will adopt an interactive learning approach. Handouts and reading material will be provided. Participants The course is designed for young and middle level professionals in NGOs, Governmental, research and other such organizations who are involved in documentation and communication activities at different levels. Course Duration, Venue and Fee The course will be of three days duration (Monday to Wednesday) and will be held on 6-‐8 July 2015 in Dehradun. This course is non-‐residential. However, subsidized accommodation could be arranged for the out-‐station participants on self-‐payment basis. The course fee will be Rs. 4,000/-‐ (Rs. Four thousand) per participant. It will also cover course material, morning, evening tea and lunch.
