Official Rules of the Chartwells/Rec Sports Better Burger Contest
ELIGIBILITY
1. No purchase necessary to enter or win.
2. The Contest is open to all TAMUCC students, faculty, and staff.
GUIDELINES
1. There will be 3 categories to submit under:
(1) Red meat (i.e. beef), (2) alternative meat (i.e. turkey, lamb, pork, fish, etc.), and (3) vegetarian
(i.e. mushroom, beans, etc.)
2. All burgers must be composed of patties (formed from ground beef or ground alternative foods).
Must be served on buns, other bread products, or alternative wrappings such as lettuce, collectively
referred to as “Bun”. Be creative! Burgers may include any combination of condiments and toppings.
Every component of the burger must be placed inside the Bun or served open-faced on the Bun.
3. Each submitted recipe must include the name of the recipe, readily available ingredients (provided
by Chartwells) with standard U.S. measurements, (such as cups, tablespoons, teaspoons, ounces, or
pounds) specific amounts for each ingredient (such as number of lettuce leaves, cup measurement of
other greens and herbs, or teaspoons of salt and pepper; do not say “to taste” for any ingredient. (List
exact amounts so reviewers can judge how your burgers will taste.) Recipes should be written to make
six (6) regular-sized burgers or six (6) servings if making a single giant burger or multiple (12 or 18) small
burgers or "sliders." Each ingredient, including the Bun and all other elements must be listed in order of
use, followed by complete step-by-step cooking instructions. Include timing and temperature for any
cooked components.
4. The recipe must be original (not knowingly been previously published or have won another award.)
ENTRY RULES
1. Recipes must be submitted online, at the Rec Sports office, or the dining hall, between March 3,
2015 and March 22, 2015. Early and late entries will not be considered. There is no limit on the
number of recipes you may submit.
2. Entries will be received by email (Shelby.stamets@tamucc.edu), or may be dropped into the
submission box located at the Dugan Wellness Center Welcome Desk or office, or at the Islander
Dining Hall registers.
3. To enter, complete the entry form including your original recipe.
3. SELECTION & JUDGING OF RECIPES
1. The following guidelines will be used to select and judge recipes:

Ease of preparation
Creativity
Visual appeal
Nutritious ingredients
2. Recipes will be reviewed by a selected judging panel to ensure adherence to Contest Guidelines and
Rules. Recipes that do not adhere to Contest Guidelines and Rules will be disqualified.
SELECTION OF WINNERS & PRIZES
1. The Judging Panel will select:
Red Meat: Top Better Burger winner will receive 3 Free Personal Training Sessions at Rec Sports
Alternative Meat: Top Better Burger winner will receive a swag bag of items
Vegetarian: Top Better Burger will receive: $50 Dining Dollars
The 3 winners will be selected March. 23rd and will be notified by email or phone.
The 3 winning recipes will be added to Islander Dining Menu, and served on March 26th during the
lunch hour (11am-2pm). Winners will have the opportunity to present their recipe from 11am-2pm in
the Dining Hall on March 26th, co-hosted with Recreational Sports.
