A message from Louis Jeffrey - Sailing to the Med. We are leaving Ardrossan on 8 June to sail to Falmouth via Bangor, Dublin Arklow, Milford Haven, Penzance then Falmouth. We will where possible travel by day but tides may dictate and some night sailing is inevitable, especially on the longer trips further south. We would be grateful if interested parties could participate from the start right through till Falmouth, failing which you could jump ship in the UK wherever you feel fit. Please contact me at louis_jeffrey@hotmail.co.uk Kind regards, Louis. Newsletter 17 – page 3 of 6 Social Reports by Alison Allan. Quiz Night Thanks to Janice Thompson for a most enjoyable Quiz on Tuesday night. Janice’s quizzes are always light-hearted, relaxed affairs so it was surprising when there was some restlessness in the ranks over one question involving light, would you believe? Correct answer, according to Mr Google, is as follows. The refraction of light when it passes from a fast medium to a slow medium bends the light-ray toward the normal to the boundary between the two media. Now I’m sure we’re all delighted to have that verified! Janice’s music round was especially popular and at the culmination of a very close-run evening, The Trophy Team triumphed and the Firehuggars gorged themselves on the Joker prize. Don’t miss next week’s Grand Finale! All contestants, old or new, will be made most welcome. Italian Evening The Commodore Suite was transformed into an Italian Taverna on Saturday night as Eileen and Greg hosted their first, but hopefully not their last, Italian Night. The food was imaginative and beautifully prepared, the service was excellent and the atmosphere was most authentic! Full marks to Eileen, Greg and their team for one of their most enjoyable themed nights to date. The Commodore Suite was filled to capacity but they managed to accommodate eight “walk-ins” in the bar. Please let Eileen know if you wish to attend similar events to avoid disappointment. There are plans afoot for a steak night, another seafood night and a Chef’s Special Gourmet Event. Watch this space for details! Newsletter 17 – page 4 of 6 Sunday 24 May – Kenny Wilson and friends.
