JOB OPENING ADVERTISEMENT FOR A “HINDU PRIEST”
(Full Time Temporary Position for 3 Months)

Murugan Temple Society (MTS) invites applications for the full time temporary position of a Hindu
Priest for their Murugan Temple to perform daily Poojas (rituals) at the temple. Applications are
accepted from interested priests only (not from any job hunter type agencies or recruitment agencies or
other individuals).
The Society operates the “Murugan Temple” (hereinafter referred to as the "Temple"), located at
16680 River Road, Richmond, British Columbia, V6V 1L6 Canada and promotes religious, spiritual,
cultural, educational, social, and humanitarian needs and commitments for the benefits of its members.
Job Description:
1. To meet temple community’s devotional and spiritual needs, priest is required to perform Hindu
Vedic rituals / ceremonies and other priestly duties as approved by the management at the
temple.
2. Priest is required to perform other administrative duties as assigned.
3. The job performance and life style should comply with accepted Hindu customs and traditions.
Qualification and Experience Requirements:
1. Experience in the rites and practices set out in the Kamika and Karana Agamas as observed in
the Saivite Hindu tradition, including Homam and Kumba Abhishekam and Temple Poojas and
Rituals.
2. Shall be proficient in performing Vaidika Karyakramas including the Jatakarma, Namakarana
Punniyaka Vachanam, Annaprasanam, Upanayanam ( Janeu),Vidyarambha Samskaras,
Ayushyahomam, Santhihomam, Mruthyunjayahomam, Nakshatrahomam, Navagrahahomam,
Ganapathihomam, Rudrahomam, Chandi Parayanam and Homam, Moorthis Pratishtaapanas,
Sahasranama Pooja, Rudrabhishekam.
3. Skillful in Alankaram and decoration of deities in various forms during temple functions and
major festivals.
4. Should be a graduate and be able to communicate with the congregation in Tamil and English
5. Knowledge in Computer usage for clerical and data processing is desirable.
6. Well versed in Shukla and Krishna Yajurveda and Upanishads, including Sri Rudram, Chamakam,
Purusha Suktam Sri Suktam, Durga Suktam, Pavamana Suktam and Navagraha Suktam desirable.
7. A minimum of two years previous experience as a Priest.
8. Certification and training in Vedic and Agamas (*Karana and Kamiya Agamas) from a Hindu
religious organization is preferred.
Immigration Status:
Canadian Permanent Residents or Canadian Citizens are preferred for this position. However, in case
suitable Canadian Permanent Residents or Canadian Citizens are not found for this position, MTS is
willing to sponsor a Visitor Visa (Work Permit Exempt) or Work Visa (LMIA Exempt) for the selected
candidate, if so required.
Employment Agreement:
Employee Agreement will be offered for a period of three months for this full time temporary position.
