Calling All Artists/Creative Folk! As part of the 100 year celebration of Black and White Days Richmond City will be bringing back its famous melodrama production. We are looking for creative people of all ages interested in helping to create the props and scenery. Please contact David Koch at david@koch.net or (435) 258-5201. We look forward to a great show. See the order form on the back page of the newsletter. **Orders are due April 24** Cowabunga Race We’re going big with new courses in celebration of the 100th anniversary of Black & White Days! New this year is the 12 k Cherry Peak Run (starting at 7:30 a.m.). The 1 mile and 5 k runs start at 8:00 a.m. All runs begin at the Richmond City Park on Saturday, May 16. Cost is $7 per person or $30 for a family of 6 (IRS dependents). Registration is available online at cowabungarace.com. Prizes for the winners of the 5 k and 12 k races. See you then!! www.richmond-utah.com Easter Egg Hunt The Richmond Lions are helping the Easter Bunny with the annual Richmond Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 4. The hunt is held at the city park and soccer field and will start promptly at 9:00 a.m. The area is divided into zones according to age group. Look for the Lions for directions to your zone. City-wide Cleanup – May 2nd Mark your calendars for the annual city-wide cleanup May 2nd. Our goal is to get at least 100 volunteers to work within their neighborhoods and on city streets and parks to pick up trash in preparation for Black and White Days. With this year being our 100th anniversary of the celebration, we really need everyone's help to get the city spiffed up! Please register your group, family or organization at the Black and White Pavilion, starting at 9 am. Pick up gloves and bags, head out to make a difference, and then join the city council on the park for a free lunch for everyone that helps out. Dumpsters The dumpsters will be back for use starting April 8: Wednesdays 3 to 8 (or until dark or full); Saturdays 8 -8 or until dark or full. They will be moved to the Maintenance Shop for most of May for Black & White days preparation and the festivities and clean up. Please no tires or refrigerators. Calling Basketball Aficionados We would love to bring rec youth basketball ball to Richmond. However, we need some help! Are you a fan of basketball, and pretty knowledgeable of the sport? April Library Lecture: Nine years ago, a USU professor asked Stacy Blauer if the school she was teaching at would like to be a "sister school" to a school in Uganda. Stacy has been involved with the wonderful people in Uganda ever since, and has traveled there twice to do humanitarian work for about a month each time. Stacy will share pictures and her experiences in a Uganda presentation, April 23rd at 7:00 PM in the Library Basement. Refreshments will be served. Child & Family Support Center April is nationally recognized as Child Abuse Prevention Month. This month brings awareness to the community that abuse happens here in Cache Valley and that through support and education abuse can be prevented. Events held in conjunction with Child Abuse Prevention Month include: April 11, 11:30am-2:30pm Sam’s Club BBQ: Join us for our 6th annual Sam's Club BBQ! Lunch will be served by the Sam’s Club crew and all proceeds will be donated to the Child & Family Support Center. April 25 10:00am Family Fun Run: The family fun run/walk features a 1 mile, 5K or 10K course, music, food, awards, and trophies. Register online at childandfamilysupportcenter.org April 29 12:00pm at the County Courthouse Steppin’ Up for Children: A community event to show a commitment to keep children safe. 327 pairs of shoes representing each child in Cache Valley who was involved in a substantiated case of child abuse are placed on the courthouse steps. Join us for a short presentation. We will hold a playgroup for children ages 04 from 10:30-11:30 on Fridays starting April 3rd. Spanish parenting class is starting on Tuesday, April 21st from 6-8 at our Hyrum Center (10 North 600 East) and will run for 4 weeks. Call 435-752-8880 with questions. Richmond Harvest Market The season opens June 6 and will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Saturday until October 10. The market is located at Rockhill Creamery (563 South State Street) and features fresh produce, Rockhill cheeses, baked goods, local farm-raised beef, and assorted crafts. Utah State University’s Center for Persons with Disabilities and Caine College of the Arts are partnering to present a FREE concert on Saturday, April 18 at 2 p.m. in the Kent Concert Hall on the USU campus. The one-hour event is intended to be fully inclusive for people of all abilities. The “Dreamers & Heroes” Family Pops Concert, presented by the American Festival Chorus and Orchestra and directed by Craig Jessop, will feature superhero-themed music that will be especially attractive to kids. Head Start Preschool Applications are being accepted for the 20152016 school year. Head Start is a wonderful free preschool opportunity for qualifying families. Creative curriculum allows for expansive learning through play and exposure to math and science skills. Free play every day allows for growth in social and language skills that will benefit children throughout their lives. Children are fed breakfast and lunch every day.
