Ben has been serving at Carpenter Place since December 2013 and loves being able to see lives transformed each day. Prior to coming to Wichita, Ben and his family served at Mid-Western Children’s Home in Cincinnati, Ohio as house parents for 7 years and at Albuquerque Christian Children’s Home for 2 years. During their time as house parents, Ben’s family provided a home to over 40 children. Ben also served as the Principal/Director of Education for 5 years at Village Christian School, which is a therapeutic program on the campus of Mid-Western Children’s Home that serves atrisk youth. Ben and his wife, Kendra, have four children, Emma, Kate, Jack, and Luke, all have quickly loved calling Wichita- “home”. Ben obtained his Master’s degree in Athletic Administration and Coaching and Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management from Ohio University. CONGRATULATIONS to our High School Scholarship Recipient Deidra Walker, our remaining High School Scholarship recipient (the other two attended last week), will join us at the meeting today to present her essay on the Rotary 4-Way Test. A graduate of Maize High School, Deidra plans to attend Wichita State University to run Cross Country and Track with a planned field of study in Business Entrepreneurship and a goal to open her own restaurant. This year, four $1,000 Academic Scholarships (3 from our club and 1 from the Sunrise Rotary club) were awarded to graduating seniors in our area who plan to attend a college/university/community college/trade school in Kansas. Qualification requirements for submitting applications were: Proven involvement in school, church, and community activities; Cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.00 or above (on a 4.0 scale); A letter of recommendation from a teacher / administrator speaking to the quality of their work and study habits and a 250 word essay on the Rotary 4-Way Test. The 4-Way Test of the things we think, say or do: 1. 2. 3. 4. Is it the TRUTH? Is it FAIR to all concerned? Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned? We'll have a reserved section of the restaurant where we can enjoy drinks, appetizers, or dinner (food and drink are on your own). Rotarians, family, friends, and guests are welcome. Come join us as we celebrate the successes of this Rotary year, and the dawning of a new Rotary year.
