• When the first bell rings at 7:57 students need to be lining
up at their designated spots with their teacher. If students
are not in their classroom by the time the second bell rings
at 8:00 then they are considered tardy.
As a Fourth Grade team, we cannot thank
you enough for sharing your students with
us this 2014-2015 year. We have all said that
each and every child in the fourth grade class
has contributed to a great school year! We
have had a wonderful time learning, growing
and having fun together. We are so thankful
that we got to spend a year teaching, learning and working with your child.

In May, we will be closing up our school year.
In Reading, we will be focusing on poetry,
dramas, and folktales. In Writing, we will finish writing Literary Essays where we analyze
the deeper meaning of a story. The Science
unit this quarter is magnets and electricity.
We will also have guest teachers from ProLogis coming to teach us Junior Achievement.
The Junior Achievement program focuses on
decision making skills needed starting a new
business or being an entrepreneur. As you
can see, we will be learning until the very
last day of the year!

Aurora Public Schools offers a voluntary Fifth Block
of Instruction for students who have shown academic growth during the school year and who could
benefit most from additional learning time in math
and literacy. Priority is given to students who are
not proficient in both literacy and math, both unsatisfactory and partially proficient.
Invitations will be offered to incoming second
through incoming tenth graders who are not yet
proficient but demonstrate evidence of growth.
Fifth Block also includes incoming fourth graders
who are low proficient in reading and incoming
sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth graders who
are low proficient in math. Students must have had
continuous enrollment in APS for at least one year
(March to March) consistent attendance and overall
good behavior.
Fifth Block is provided to students at no additional
cost to parents. Students are generally taught in
their own schools using district curriculum. Class
size is set at a 25 to 1 ratio.
The regular school year runs from August 7, 2014 –
May 20, 2015. The Fifth Block of Instruction will be
offered from May 26, 2015 to June 25, 2015 for the
2014-15 school year.
School staff will notify parents of eligible students
from March 2, 2015 to April 3, 2015, and parents
must return signed contracts to accept participation of their child in Fifth Block no later than April
10, 2015.
Transportation, breakfast/lunch and nursing services will be available to students. There will be no
need to reapply for free or reduced lunch.

New Trains Are Coming –
Stay Safe Around Commuter
Rail
Safety is the number-one priority of the Regional
Transportation District (RTD). This spring, new
commuter trains will start to run along the East Rail
Line as part of a year-long testing program. This will
be followed later this year with testing on the Northwest Rail Line to Westminster and the Gold Line to
Arvada and Wheat Ridge. This is part of the build-up
to their 2016 openings. Like RTD’s light rail trains,
the new commuter trains are powered by overhead
electric wires. But the track crossings and the passenger stations are different from light rail. It is
important for students, parents, faculty and staff to
understand how to stay safe around this new train
system.
So RTD is conducting a comprehensive safety program to get people ready for what’s coming. Your
school is near the tracks, and there are dangers
associated with crossing the tracks and the equipment. You will be hearing more from RTD as testing
moves along. For now, please share these important
safety messages with your school community, especially your students and their parents:
• Do not touch or throw objects at the overhead
power lines or climb on the power poles — if
they are up, they are live with electricity!
• Never trespass on any train track — it is illegal
and dangerous.
• Cross the tracks only at designated crossings,
always follow safety signs and obey warning devices such as flashing red lights and gate arms.
• Stay alert and look both ways for a train — you
may not hear them coming.
• Never trespass onto construction sites and stay
off the train station platforms until they are
open to the public.

Coming Soon: APS Registration Online Option
APS Centralized Admissions is introducing an online registration process that will shorten the time it takes to
register students in Aurora Public Schools. Beginning April 17, parents and guardians will have access to online
registration forms that they can complete on any computer. The online forms will be available in English and
Spanish.
After parents complete and print the online forms, they will go to the Centralized Admissions Office to verify
their identification and address information. Centralized Admissions can also print the forms if a parent has the
confirmation number received during the online registration process.
The online registration link will be posted on the APS website at admissions.aurorak12.org beginning April 17.
Registration for the 2015-16 school year runs from April 8 to May 29 to allow time for parents to complete the
enrollment process prior to schools going on summer break. Parents can continue to register their children at
the Centralized Admissions office after May 29, although they may need to wait until the end of July to complete
the enrollment process at schools.
The APS Centralized Admissions Office is located at 1075 Peoria Street and is open Monday through Friday, 7:30
a.m. – 4:00 p.m. If you have questions, please call Centralized Admissions at 303-326-2200.

La Oficina Central de Admisiones de las Escuelas Públicas de Aurora está introduciendo un proceso de inscripción
en línea, el cual reducirá el tiempo necesario para inscribir a estudiantes en APS. Comenzando el 17 de abril, los

5th Block (Quinta Sesion de
Instuccion)
Cuarto grado ha tenido un año maravilloso que entrando a primavera! Este mes iremos a el viaje final del ano al Teatro Mizel
para ver el teatro del Androcles and the Lion. Este será un viaje
maravilloso al ver un teatro en vivo, aprender acerca de las Bellas Artes y tomar una clase de actuación de actores profesionales!
En la ciencia, nuestra unidad final será imanes y electricidad.
Al final de la unidad, los estudiantes serán capaces de explicar
distintas formas de la electricidad y cómo circuitos de transportan de electricidad.
En estudios sociales, continuaremos a explorar la historia de
Colorado y comparar la vida desde hace mucho tiempo con vida
hoy. En el transcurso de este año, hemos aprendido mucho sobre diferentes viajes de nativos americanos, colonos europeos y
las industrias importantes que trajo una variedad de personas
a Colorado.
En lectura, seguiremos usando evidencia para apoyar nuestro
entendimiento. Padres, cuando estás leyendo con sus hijos siempre preguntarles “Qué evidencia apoya tu respuesta?” y “¿Qué
significa para usted?”. Los estudiantes han estado trabajando
en esta habilidad lo largo del año y se han convertido en usarlos
muy bien y utilizando un texto para apoyar sus respuestas.
En matemáticas, los estudiantes se enfocarán en volumen y
geometría tridimensional. Continuaremos a practicar nuestras
habilidades computacionales de adición, sustracción, multiplicación y división para utilizar las estrategias más eficaces para
resolver problemas.
Fifth Block se proporciona a los alumnos sin ningún costo adicional para los padres. Los alumnos generalmente reciben la

La seguridad es la prioridad número uno para
el Distrito de Transporte Regional (RTD).
Esta primavera, los nuevos trenes suburbanos comenzarán a desplazarse a lo largo de la
Línea Ferroviaria del Este como parte de un
programa de prueba de un año de duración.
Más adelante en el año se iniciarán pruebas
con la Línea Ferroviaria Noroeste vía Westminster y la Línea Gold vía Arvada y Wheat
Ridge. Esto forma parte del plan para la inauguración de 2016. Al igual que ocurre con
los trenes light rail de RTD, los nuevos trenes

• Cuando la primera campana suena a las 7:57 los estudiantes

para compartir sus estudiantes con nosotros este año 2014-2015. ¡Todos hemos dicho que cada niño en la clase de
