MR. R VELUSAMY VP- Engineering and Component Development, Powertrain Division - PTD Mr. R Velusamy is the Vice president of Powertrain Division (PTD) and responsible for Engineering and Component Development of following business verticals of Mahindra group. o o o Automotive Division - Powertrain (Engine, Clutch, Transmission & Axle) Farm Division and Powerol - Engines Mahindra Truck and Bus Division - Powertrain (Trucks) He is a B.Sc from Madras University, B.Tech from Madras Institute of Technology, Anna Universityand a Graduate of the Advanced Management Programme from the Wharton Business School, USA. He has over 19 years of diverse experience in various facets of Automotive as well as farm equipment sector like Research &Development, Technology Incubation, Sourcing and Vendor Management. Major Highlights of his accomplishments at M&M o He was the Design, Development and Calibration head of mHawk 2.2lit Diesel engine which later became the game changer of M&M's powertrain. It is considered to be the best engine in the country in its class powering flagship products of Mahindra like Scorpio, XUV and Xylo. It was the first state of art High Speed Diesel Engine from Mahindra’s stable with bundle of technologies like 4V/Cyl, Aluminium Cyl head, Variable Geometry Turbocharger, Second Generation CRDe, etc. o The World’s first 2cyl Common Rail Engine with 4V/Cyl was also developed under his leadership which again became a game changer in small commercial vehicle segment like Maxximo. o Extending the innovations to other flagship product BOLERO, he lead his team to deliver world’s first Low Cost Common Rail System for 4cylinder 2.5lit mDI engine thereby re-strengthening the brand of BOLERO and BMT in the market. o The world’s first Two Stage Turbocharger for engine less than 1.5lit capacity was also delivered under his supreme leadership to power Quanto and its variants. o Under his guidance, more than 3 engine platforms, Transaxles/Transmissions, Drive shafts, clutch and their variants have been developed and delivered successfully and more than 6 platforms are under development.. o He was also instrumental indeveloping 6 new Enginesin synergy with newly acquired SYMC Korea. o Under his guidance, Powertrain strategy andmany new powertrain platforms are being developed for Heavy commercial engines,Genset application,and Automotive and Farm equipment sector. o He was instrumental in developing much appreciated Powertrain Development Center at MRV Chennai. He is widely appreciated for developing a culture of Innovation in powertrain group with emphasis on First Time Right, On-time Delivery, standardization, guidelines, methods and system. Within a span of 10 years (2004 to 2014) he has transformed a team of less than 20 engineers to a world-class powertrain group of 500+ engineers to take on future challenges.
