Invasive Species Outreach Assistant The Sandy River Basin Watershed Council (SRBWC) seeks a temporary, part-‐time Invasive Species Outreach Assistant. This person will work directly with our Community Stewardship Coordinator to build relationships with landowners and survey properties for invasive species in the Upper Sandy Basin. The Invasive Species Outreach Assistant will contribute to restoration projects and increase community engagement to restore native vegetation in a high profile, socially diverse, regionally significant natural setting. The Invasive Species Outreach Assistant is a contracted temporary, part-‐time position, reporting to our Community Stewardship Coordinator. This position is not to exceed 295 hours and will be compensated at $13/hour ($3835 total, expected to be 16-‐20 hours per week for ~15 weeks). Applications are due by June 1st at 5pm, and the desired start date is June 10th. Responsibilities Internal Project Assistance Coordinate field schedule with the Community Stewardship Coordinator, and display a willingness to communicate with SRBWC staff and project partners in a collaborative effort. Invasive Species Surveys Survey private properties with granted permission for 12 Early Detection Rapid Response (EDRR) invasive species as identified with project partner Clackamas County Soil and Water Conservation District. Collect field data with Community Stewardship Coordinator using GPS-‐ enabled mobile app technology (all technology will be provided). There is potential involvement in invasive species removal depending on time needed for outreach to gain property permissions. Landowner Outreach Assist Community Stewardship Coordinator in contacting landowners in the Upper Sandy Basin to receive permission to survey and treat EDRR weeds on their properties. This will primarily occur through site visits to individual landowners. Skills & Qualifications • • • • • • • Some college-‐level coursework in ecology, environmental science, natural resources, botany, restoration, or related field Ability to identify invasive plant species Effective communication with landowners and colleagues Quick learning of field data recording methodology Ability to be outdoors for long periods of time, including walking in riparian areas Ability to patiently and efficiently work with partners in collaborative projects Commitment to work in a fun environment Location & Work Conditions Project sites are distributed throughout the Upper Sandy River basin, primarily focusing the tributary Salmon River. Summer conditions require physical labor in varying mountain weather and riparian areas. Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license, and may coordinate carpooling with SRBWC staff to project sites.
