Faculty Fellowship Awards
Professor Jennifer Marshall has been awarded a National Endowment for
the Humanities Fellowship in support of her book project, The Life and Work
of African-American Folk Artist William Edmondson.
Professor Matthew Canepa has been named a fellow of the John Simon
Guggenheim Memorial Foundation for 2015-16 in support of a multi-volume
research project on the development of the visual cultures and spatial
environments of power in Persia and the ancient Iranian world.

"National History Day in Minnesota is looking for undergraduate
students interested in history, history education, or community
service! The History Day Mentoring Program is a PAID internship
where undergraduates have the opportunity to mentor middle
school and high school students as they create original projects.
Working with the History Day program will help you build your
resume, introduce you to career opportunities in education and
public history, and support connections between the U and the

CFP: FEMINIST ART HISTORY CONFERENCE at American University in Washington,
DC
November 6-8, 2015 (Friday-Sunday)
This annual conference builds on the legacy of feminist art-historical scholarship
and pedagogy initiated by Norma Broude and Mary D. Garrard at American
University. To further the inclusive spirit of their groundbreaking anthologies, we
invite papers on subjects spanning the chronological spectrum, from the ancient
world through the present, to foster a broad dialogue on feminist art-historical
practice. Papers may address such topics as: artists, movements, and works of art
and architecture; cultural institutions and critical discourses; practices of collecting,
patronage, and display; the gendering of objects, spaces, and media; the reception
of images; and issues of power, agency, gender, and sexuality within visual
cultures. Submissions on under-represented art-historical fields, geographic areas
or national traditions, and issues of race and ethnicity are encouraged.
To be considered for participation, please provide a single document in Microsoft
Word. It should consist of a one-page, single-spaced proposal of unpublished work,
up to 500 words in length for a 20-minute presentation, followed by a curriculum
vitae of no more than two pages. Please title the document “[last name]proposal”.
Submit materials with the subject line “[last name]-proposal”

Grants or Fellowships
International Center for Medieval Art has established three ICMA Graduate
Student Travel Grants especially for ICMA student members in the early
stages of their dissertation research. Three grants will be awarded this year, at
$3,000 each, to enable a student to travel to Europe (including the Eastern
Mediterranean) to visit the monuments or museum objects or manuscripts on
which the dissertation will be based. The grant is designed to cover one
month of travel. The ICMA will contact institutions and/or individuals in the
area to be visited; these will help the student gain access to the relevant
material and aid in other practical matters. The grant is designed primarily for
the student who has finished the preliminary exams, and is in the process of
formulating a dissertation topic. Students who have already submitted a
proposal, but are still very early on in the process of their research, may also
apply.
Applicants must submit:
1. Outline of the thesis proposal in 800 words or less.
2. Detailed outline of exactly what the student would like to see on his/her
travels, and how this relates to the proposed thesis topic.
3. Proposed budget (airfare, lodging, other travel, per diem).
4. Letter from the thesis advisor, clarifying where the student stands in
his/her graduate career, and explaining the relevance of the trip to the thesis.
Upon return, the student will be required to submit a letter and financial
report to the ICMA and a narrative to the student section of the Newsletter.
Applications are due by 15 April 2015. The ICMA will announce the winners of
the three grants by 15 May 2015.
