Summary
 Data on business capital spending plans are released this week;
 This is currently one of the most important indicators for the Australian economic outlook;
 The risks are that firms have marked down their capital spending plans for the 2016
financial year.

The chances of any additional rate cuts will come down to
the outlook for the domestic unemployment rate, global
financial developments and the level of the currency.
The level of ninety-day bill yields is appropriately priced
for our rate view. But the developments in the currency
market will be important for the outlook.
The three-year swap rate look a little high given the
domestic and global economic risks.
Longer-end rates spiked sharply over the past month. But
low global cash rates and inflation will keep the lid on
longer-term rates for some time yet.
The $A has picked up in recent weeks as commodity
prices have firmed. We look for the $A to hit 0.70c over
the next year. The bigger question is still whether the $A
can move under 70c.

Key economic charts of last week
Despite the apparent stabilisation in the unemployment
rate, consumer fears about the jobs market remain high.
Job market concerns and low wages growth is keeping a
lid on consumer confidence.
China is now the number two market for travellers coming
to Australia.
Growth in conferences and holidays was strong in 2014;
travelling for business trips was weak.
Despite the very low level of interest rates, the gold price is
at the bottom end of its recent trading range.
Wheat prices have been trending down over the past six
months.
