Office: 574.299.4765 web site: http://sbpark.org/ What’s Up In South Bend Parks A Summary of Activities of the South Bend Parks & Recreation Department Rum Village Winter Programs The Rum Village Nature Center offers a series of programs to help beat cabin fever. The programs are Sundays at 2:00 p.m. Admission is FREE! Current schedule: April 5th: Happy Easter! - Nature Center Closed April 12th: Audubon Meeting & Presentation - Justin Kintzele and Casey Zillman will present "21 Days in Tanzania," a program on birding and conservation. For more info, call the Nature Center at 574.235.9455 Gone Fishing: Free Fishing Day Join us for what has become one of the c-o-o-l-e-s-t events of the spring; Gone Fishing Free Fishing Day on Saturday, May 9, at Pinhook Park. The program is open to boys & girls age 7-17. Representatives from the Indiana Dept. of Natural Resources, the Indiana Division of Fish & Wildlife and South Bend Parks & Rec will teach kids about casting, cleaning and identification safety & conservation. Registration begins April 6, but make sure you don’t wait too long; there are only 100 spots available. This is an all day event which begins at 9:00am and no equipment is necessary. Passport to Play: Island Fantasy The kickoff for this season’s Passport events will begin at HealthWorks! Come join us from 6-7:30pm, Fri., April 10, for some tropical fun, activities, dancing, pictures and snacks. Pick up your passports for the next 5 events. Fun for the whole family. Saturday, June 27, 2015 Four Winds Field, Downtown South Bend Join us for the biggest party of the summer. For 2015 we have dual headliners: , both of who currently have top charting hits. Tickets are on sale NOW!!!! Trick Pony will be releasing new music soon, and we have the contagious energy of opening act Natalie Stovall & the Drive. Tickets are $25 for the early birds through April 26, then prices are $35 April 27 through show day. An added bonus: when you purchase a ticket to the festival, you will also receive a ticket to see the South Bend Cubs at Four Winds Field in 2015! Tickets can be purchased at the Four Winds Field box office, O’Brien Recreation Center, or on TicketWeb. We’ll see you there! Check out the promo video: click here Kids’ World Day Camp: Win a Week of FREE Camp! How do I win a free week of camp you ask? Ahhh, well you must check out the Kids’ World web page , or South Bend Parks & Recreation FaceBook page for all the details. This camp is for ages 5-12 years old, 5 year olds must have completed kindergarten. Registration began Monday, February 23rd online and walk-in during front office business hours of 8am-4pm, Monday – Friday. Check us out! Youth Co-Ed Summer Kickball League Kickball is all about the FUN! Kids kick, catch, throw and dodge an 8" playground ball, anyone can join in and have a great time, regardless of ability or experience! The season consists of five scheduled league games and will conclude with an end of season cook-out and Kids vs. Parents game. SUMMER 2015 LEAGUE DETAILS DATES: Wednesdays, June 24 through July 22, 2015 Cook-out Date: Wednesday, July 29, 2015 TIMES: Wednesdays, 5:30 – 8:30 pm (45 minute games or six full innings) LOCATION: Leeper Park Ball Diamond (adjacent to Leeper Tennis Center) AGES: Boys AND girls ages 9-12 as of July 1, 2015 FEES: $25 Please contact Jennifer at 574.235.9504 or jrozmary@southbendin.gov for information. Howard Park Recreation Center Stop by or call Howard Park Recreation Center to find out about our new spring programs. Come walk with us in the oldest park in the city, play board games, enjoy craft classes or watch a movie on the last Friday of the month. You can receive the monthly newsletter free by calling and giving your email address so you don’t miss out on the fun we have at Howard Park. Nature Detectives Day Camp The Nature Detectives Day Camp gives students ages 6-12 a chance to explore the natural world at a beautiful local park. Over three miles of hiking trails, an interactive nature center with a wildlife window, and a staff of experienced naturalists make this camp a great choice for a summer adventure. The Nature Detective camps run from 9 am to 12 pm for campers 6 to 12 years old. Drinks and snack will be provided. Online registration will be available here beginning February 1st. Summer Employment: South Bend Parks & Recreation Dept. Leeper Tennis Center is now accepting applications for tennis instructors, concession staff and front office staff. These positions are part time, seasonal positions. For questions or more information regarding Leeper Tennis Center, please contact Jennifer at 574.235.9504. The department is hiring for a wide variety of seasonal and permanent positions, including aquatics, golf course, graffiti removal, and other positions.
