Dear Parents / Caregivers,
Thank you to each and every one of our students, supported by their families and staff, who spent their own time to share in and
observe the Centenary of the ANZAC landing at Gallipoli at the local Burpengary March last Saturday. Just for the record,
there were 316 students who voluntarily participated in that wonderful public demonstration of the heart and soul of Burpengary
State School. Well done!
Congratulations to all students for their efforts in the Cross-Country Carnival on Wednesday. Whether students came first,
second, or just finished the course, we were all able to witness first class character traits of team spirit and personal triumph
over hardship! The single point earned by any students in any Year level was just as important to the team as a first place as
only 45 points separated first, second and third place overall, with only 5 points between first and second. No losers on this day
at Burpengary! A huge “Thank You” goes to Ms Amanda Heathwood, as this carnival just keeps getting better every year!
Thanks also to Mr Scott Bowden, Mr Neil F, Mr Jaime F and the dedicated team of staff (some of whom arrived at 5.00am to set
up!) in making certain the day was a success.
Overall Results: First = Hibiscus 885; Second = Forest 880; Third = Eucalypt 840 and Wattle 730.

Today’s parade also celebrated:
(1) Jorja ’s recent selection in the U/13 Queensland State Soccer Team!
(2) The introduction of our very own Burpengary State School Adopt-A-Cops! Acting Inspector Ashley Stanke introduced
Constables John Tighe and Adam Housden to our school community, and they undertook the Police Adopt-A-Cop Pledge in
front of our students – we appreciate the brilliant support from the Burpengary Branch that such a positive community policing
program like this does for our community.
As Winter approaches, I ask families to ensure that your family is adequately prepared and uniform-standard-compliant for the
cooler weather ahead if you have not already done so. The Winter Uniform standard is (for all Year levels): School Jacket: navy
blue, with no crest or old school crest, front close, pale blue stripes at neck, wrist and waist; or Plain navy blue pullover, Plain navy
blue track pants (No other colours, writing, hoodies, stripes or insignia). Also on uniforms the Year 6 Gradation Shirt has not
arrived yet from overseas. A technical glitch with the software used to send the names was incompatible and we had to re-send
during the Easter vacation. This has delayed the arrival. The shirts will be released as soon as they arrive at the school.
Apologies for any inconvenience.
A reminder to all families who have not already done so: please prioritise the payment of the $25 voluntary contribution at
your earliest possible opportunity? We can arrange for this contribution to be paid in small, manageable instalments over
time. The current priority that we are undertaking throughout every classroom is replacing blackboards with whiteboards.
We have to date replaced 18 of the 48 spaces that need replacing in the school. Whiteboards are cleaner (no chalk dust and
allergens) and enable teachers to work interactively with the data projector technology in the rooms. We can achieve these
enhancements literally years ahead of our current schedule with your assistance in this voluntary contribution scheme. It benefits
all children in our school.
The Life Education Van arrives at school on Wednesday 6 May, and Years 1, 2 and 4 students will participate in a highly
engaging program linked to the Health curriculum. Students will attend a session in the van with the Life Education Educator and
receive a workbook for follow up lessons in the classroom. Payment for the program is now due. Please make payment at the
payment window in the school office as soon as possible if you have not already done so.
The Mother’s Day Stall will be open next week in the demountable building next to the Uniform Shop. It will be open each
morning from 8.15-9.15am, and Thursday afternoon from 2.15-3.15pm. Prep classes will go through on Monday morning during
school time.
