Update and projected projects Updates generally are posted following our monthly Governing Board meeting when official awards are made. These meetings are the fourth Tuesday of each month except December when it is the second Tuesday of the month. End of January updates in glowing fireplace ORANGE End of February updates in PURPLE Listed below are the larger general funded and bond funded project awards and projects that we anticipate may be approved by our Governing Board in the next four to six months. Also shown are projected bids and requests for proposals (RFP’s). Colleges must develop and submit education specs for their major new construction and remodeling projects prior to Board action, and this activity is initiated by the colleges. Following Board approval, RFP’s will be issued for design teams and for the larger projects, CMARs. Projects awarded to consultants under Annual Services agreements or to contractors under Job Order Contracting purchase orders are not listed. Our capital development policy requires that we have operating money available to open and support new facilities before we can start any portion of the project, including the original project approval by our Board, consultant or CMAR selection. None this month Page 1 Project Awards and Recognitions: GateWay Community College’s Integrated Education Building was recognized for it’s USGBC LEED Certification. Attending the event were (left to right) Katie Stachler RA Smithgroup, Dr. Steven R. Gonzales, president of GateWay Community College, Randy Rossow of the District’s Facilities Planning group, and Carrie Perrone, also an architect with SmithGroup. Mesa Community College’s new Performing Arts Center received the RED Award for Best Redevelopment Project in 2014. The RED Awards, Real Estate and Development Awards, are provided for the biggest, best and most notable commercial real estate projects and transactions for the previous year. Awards are given to developer, general contractor, architect and broker/teams. The project team is Jones Studio, architects; Layton Construction, contractor: and Ross Bern, Facilities Planning project manager. This project started with the purchase of the Fiesta Five Harkins movie theater building at Fiesta Mall. The original building was gutted and provides rehearsal rooms, lobby space, Music Department offices and practice space and theater support. A new 425 seat proscenium stage theater building was added to the original building. In fairness to everyone who may propose on our projects, neither we nor the college should provide individual consultant or contractor tours or meetings for a specific project in advance of the RFP being issued. The colleges will refer you to our project manager anyway. Please honor this request so that we will know that you really will be listening later on to what we want. Thanks in advance for your cooperation! District-wide work Annual Services for consultants RFP (“on-call” services). RFP #3299-2 is available now, and is due Wednesday, March 25, 2015.. The District maintains annual services consultants in the following areas: Acoustical Engineering, Air/Water Test & Balance, Architectural Services, Page 3 Audio Visual System Design, Building and Building Systems Commissioning, Building Code Review, Civil Engineering (including surveying and pavement maintenance), Cost Estimating, Electrical Engineering, Energy Conservation, Forensic Analysis, Geotechnical Engineering, Hazardous Materials and Air Quality Consulting and Testing, Interior Design, Landscape Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Roofing and Waterproofing, Structural Engineering and Utility Mapping Annual contract amounts per firm will not exceed $350,000 per year within a single category, with a $150,000 maximum for a single project purchase order. Each contract may be renewed annually for a total maximum term of five years. There is no guaranteed minimum amount of work in any year. Purchase orders for consultant work are funded from the specific projects. Contact: Gary Eberhard gary.eberhard@domail.maricopa.edu Annual Roofing Contractors The District will solicit multiple roofing contractors to assist with the District-wide annual roofing maintenance program. Selected roofing contractors will be available to the District for a one-year maintenance agreement, renewable up to 4 additional years. There is no guaranteed amount of roofing maintenance each year. The scope of services may include preventative maintenance, localized patching/repairs (including flashing materials), and smaller roofing replacements. Roofing types currently used throughout the District include urethane foam with acrylic top coating, TPO, asphalt built-up, and R-Mer-Lite (light gauge metal roofing on channel strips). The RFQ will be released approximately March 2015 for implementation as of July 2015. Separate packages may be created that include sealcoat, local partial and full depth pavement patches, and crack seal/restripe package for multiple District’s locations, and a second package will provide paving milling and/or substantial replacements at additional locations. The issue date for bids still in in discussion. No other details, schedule or budget is available at this time. Estrella Mountain Community College No major new projects identified with any certainty at this time. Glendale Community College No major new projects identified with any certainty at this time. GateWay Community College No major new projects identified with any certainty at this time. Page 4 Mesa Community College Mesa will be replacing the roof on the Student Services Building and associated work to change the exhaust hood and air make up for the hood in the building’s commercial kitchen. The roofing replacement will be the District’s standard urethane foam system. The estimated cost for the combined project (roofing replacement and the mechanical system) is about $400,000 to $600,000 and will be issued in a single bid to simplify coordination of work. Bids will be issued and received in March or April, with work to be completed in Summer 2015. Corporate College currently is in early discussion to provide its first permanent home, perhaps in partnership with another entity or local government. Current program needs are estimated at about 35,000 – 40,000 gsf. No other details, schedule or budget is available at this time. Maricopa Skill Center No major new projects identified with any certainty at this time Phoenix College Early discussion and project development to remodel Building C top to bottom. Building C previously housed Nursing and currently houses Allied Health and physical sciences. Allied Health will leave for a new building by summer 2015. The balance of the 44,000 gsf building, including the science labs, will be renovated and in portions, significantly remodeled. No other details, schedule or budget is available at this time. Paradise Valley Community College No major new projects identified with any certainty at this time. Rio Salado College No major new projects identified with any certainty at this time Scottsdale Community College The College is working on the education specs for two buildings to complete their bond program. One will be a student center east, about 32,000 to 35,000 gsf, containing an institutional kitchen, dining area, large meeting room and smaller break out rooms and the second is a classroom building for the Business program, containing 10-11 classrooms, computer labs and faculty offices. The projects may be combined into a single building or done as two separated buildings, but using a single design and construction firm for either choice. Project details, ed specs, timing and budgets are in development now. The combined construction budget may be in the $10 million range. The building will be re-functioned due to the relocation of the Nursing program to another recently remodeled building. No other details, schedule or budget is available at this time. Page 5 South Mountain Community College Security Card Access System/Door locks and door replacements: SMCC will upgrade and/or standardize all of the existing doors on campus to receive new electronic locking devices, most tied to a card access system. The work also will include replacement of a number of existing doors in poor condition with new doors. The general scope will cover exterior and classroom doors only. The initial budget value is approximately $400,000500,000. Bids will be solicited in May-June 2015, with phase 1 of access control work to commence Summer 2015.
