Ethics Training
9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
This training is designed to provide participants with an overview of the
moral concepts of goodness, right, and obligation, and the ways in which
they operate in society, religion, and law. These concepts are further
enhanced during the classroom discussions and group work.
As a result of the training, participants will be able to:
• Explore the development of values
• Review the various codes of ethics
• Review the major ethical principles
• Discuss unprofessional conduct and professional boundaries
• Discuss ethical decision-making
Cultural Competence Training
1-4 p.m.
This training is designed to provide participants with a cultural experience
and how their perceptions of themselves and others are impacted in
our society. Videos and self-assessments will be utilized to encourage
participation.
As a result of the training, participants will be able to:
• Define cultural competency
• Describe cultural context and communication skills
• Identify ways in which cultural beliefs and values impact our practice
within the behavioral health system
• Explain the cultures of “self” and “others”
Trainer:
Denise Beagley, M.Sc., is a trainer at the ASU Center for Applied
Behavioral Health Policy. She has worked within the behavioral health
system since 2002. Prior to her work in Arizona, she completed her
Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology at Trinity
College Dublin, in Ireland. Denise has over 15 years
of experience working in the areas of Co-Occurring
Disorders, Psychiatric Disorders, Cultural Competency,
Suicide Prevention, Motivational Interviewing, Hearing
Voices Workshops, Compassion and Correctional Fatigue,
and is a certified Master Level Trainer for ASAM, Cultural
Competency, and ASIST.
