YOUR TASK
Plan and publish a written retell using one of the events from the novel’ Just a Dog’ by
Michael Gerard Bauer. The event must be retold using first person narrative from the Mr
Mosely’s point of view. You must not use the event retold in the exemplar but may
choose any other appropriate event from the story.
Your retell must include:
1. Opening Comment
Mr Mosely should offer an observation or comment about the event.
2. Orientation
Set the scene and introduce the characters and events which lead to the problem.
3. Complication
Explain and describe what went wrong.
4. Resolution
How was the problem resolved or how did it finish?
Your retell should include:
• First person pronouns
• Interesting and appropriate vocabulary, including some noun groups, power verbs
and colloquial language,
• Variety in sentence structure and beginnings
• Thoughts and feelings of the character
• Use of a clear voice and characterisation to build interest and a relationship with your
audience.
Your work must be edited so therefore spelling, punctuation and grammar should be
accurate and correct. Paragraphs must be used and give your retell a’ catchy title.’
