The Penny War is Back!
What is a Penny War?
Each homeroom will have a container and the class that collects the most “positive
points” will win. Each penny equals a positive point and the silver coins (nickels,
dimes, quarters) count as negative points for another class.
You can bring your pennies and put them in your class jar and you can bring your silver coins or dollar
bills and put them in another class’s container. Whatever class has the most points wins!
That is how you have a penny war!
It will be held from May 4, 2015 until May 8, 2015
1st prize: pizza party
2nd prize: ice cream
The proceeds will be donated to the Divine Mercy Foundation in Reynosa and
the Michael McHugh Teacher Excellence Fund.
Thank you for your support!

Gala Fun!
Gala was a great night for
Catholic Education.
A Special THANK YOU to all of
the volunteers that helped make
our school's gala a success.
We had many wonderful
“property owners" and benefactors from friends, school parents,
parishioners, and our alumni
base. Many thanks to all who
came and made a positive impact
on our school.
Our Elementary School
Teachers had fun at the
annual Gala!
Congratulations to our Elementary Team for
being named “Teacher of the Year”
St. Pius X Women’s ACTS Retreat April 9-12, 2015
“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me.” –
Psalm 51:12
The cost for the retreat is $160, which covers everything, including transportation, meals and
lodging. No one will be denied admission to the retreat due to financial reasons. Scholarships are
available for those who need them.
Registration forms can be found in the back of the church and in the church office. This is a great
opportunity to meet some fabulous ladies and learn more about our beautiful Catholic faith. Please
come!
For more information, please contact Kimberly Casillas at 274-0954 or Angie Smith at 685-9135.
New to San Antonio? Curious about Fiesta?
By 1890, San Antonio, Texas, was a thriving trade center with population of
38,000. In 1891 a group of citizens decided to honor the heroes of the
Alamo and Battle of San Jacinto with a Battle of Flowers.
The first parade had horse-drawn carriages, bicycles decorated with fresh
flowers and floats carrying children dressed as flowers. The Belknap Rifles
represented the military. The participants pelted each other with blossoms.
The Battle of Flowers Parade is the largest parade in Fiesta.

Parade Tickets!
Fiesta is right around the corner, and the St. Pius Men’s Club and Boy Scout Troop 444 are once again
selling tickets for the Battle of Flowers parade and Fiesta Flambeau parade, April 24th and 25th. There
are only a few tickets left for the night parade, but there are plenty seats available for the day parade.
Pricing:
All night tickets

Day parade row 3 and 4

Our block of seats are located on the west side of Broadway, just north of 3rd (Martin).
If you are interested in purchasing tickets, please call the church office 210.824.0139 / ext. 202

This is a great way to celebrate your Fiesta Friday,

5th Grade trip to Camp Kappe
Our 5th grade students left on Tuesday morning for Camp Kappe
and the School of Environmental Education (S.E.E.)
S.E.E. is an accredited school which provides a four-day outdoor
experience of God's gift of nature while studying life cycles, food
chains, the environment's effect on man, man's effect on the
environment, conservation of resources, etc. It offers hands-on
experience with farm animals and gardening along with many
other exciting adventures in outdoor education .
We will have more details and pictures in next week’s newsletter.
Our 5th grade parents
got up early to send off
their students to Camp Kappe.
