Volunteers are an important part of Science 101and
Science 101 is a non-credit, barrier free Science community outreach program offered to adult residents of Vancouver's Downtown Eastside and other inner-city communities. Annually from May to August, Science 101 offers a variety of lectures, tutorials, and field trips to introduce a selection of topics in order to inspire a love of science and education. Volunteers are an important part of Science 101 and are given a variety of responsibilities both inside and outside the classroom such as: Engaging adult students through one-on-one personal and scientific discussions, Confidence building and participating in small group activities, Helping students with project conceptualization, organization, and preparation, etc. Requirements: Be a graduate student or senior undergraduate student in the Faculty of Science. Attend at least one of the 3-5 activities per week, and must commit for 4 months from May to August. Experience working with diverse adult populations is an asset.
