Dear Parents and Caregivers,
I am pleased to share with our school community that our students in Year 3 and Year 5 gave their very best
efforts in their NAPLAN Testing this week. Remember NAPLAN only measures their progress in learning of where
they are achieving now. It doesn’t measure what great children we have. I am proud of their positive attitude and
their persistence to give it their best.
Staffing Changes
It is with mixed emotions that I share that our HOSES, Mrs Kerri Feeney, will be leaving us at the end of next
week to take up a position in Central Office working with the More Support Team for students with a disability.
This is a wonderful opportunity for Mrs Feeney. We will certainly miss her in our school community as she brought
such wisdom and experience to the role. We wish her every success in her new adventure. In the remaining 5
weeks of this term Mrs Nicole Gilliland and Mrs Melissa McKelvey will be job sharing the role. An expression of
interest has been advertised for Semester 2 to fill this position. Mr Johns is also on extended sick leave as he is
unwell. We welcome back Mr Brad Viterale to work in 4 Maroon.
Staff Illness
At the moment flu season is upon us and like some of our students, a number of staff have been ill or have ill
children of their own. We are doing our very best to keep continuity in learning when staff are away however this
is a challenge on some days to keep the same teacher in a class for consecutive days. We hope that you understand our predicament and your support is much appreciated.
Chappy Week
Next week our school, along with many others in Queensland, will be celebrating Chappy Week. We are truly
blessed to have the most wonderful Chappy in our school. Chappy Bec has arranged a spectacular event to occur
on Monday with the return of JC Epidemic. These young people are amazing with their BMX tricks and most
importantly their messages to students. Parents are welcome to come along with the performance starting at
1:00pm. This will be followed by Pancakes with Chappy on Thursday morning. We look forward to celebrating the
role these amazing people play in the lives of children in schools.
.
Parent and Emergency Contact Details
We have had a number of students being sent to school quite unwell in the last few weeks and when we have
gone to phone parents or carers, or emergency contacts the phone numbers have been disconnected or changes
in phone number have occurred. Can you please ensure you update your details when you change phone numbers or addresses? Please email admin@dakabinss.eq.edu.au if you need to let us know any changes.
Paediatrician / Medical Communication
As a school we highly value the partnership school plays in liaising with Paediatricians, GP referrals, OT or SLP
interventions. If you require a letter from the school, please give at least 5 days notice for a letter to be prepared.
It is a complex task preparing these letters as we want to provide the most accurate and relevant information.
Kind regards,
Kelly Jeppesen

School Photo Delivery Update
MSP Photography Brisbane has experienced some unexpected delays with the delivery of your
school photos this year for which we apologise. We would appreciate your patience and understanding as we arrange delivery of your photos as soon as possible. We have had two issues impact our
delivery this year. On Friday, 1 May, our offices were badly affected by the severe weather event in
Brisbane with water flooding our offices as well as water through the roof.
Unfortunately this water has caused some damage to photos in the process of being packed. This
has required us to reorder photos and created a backlog. In addition to this, our printing facilities
were upgraded this year with new equipment to ensure we always provide the highest quality product
available on the market. There have been some implementation issues
with this equipment which has created a second backlog, however, the end
product is an even higher quality finish on your class photos.
We are endeavouring to deliver your photos as soon as possible and anticipate delivery in the next couple of weeks. Once again we apologise for this
delay. Thank you for your understanding. If you have any questions, please
do not hesitate to call us on 07 3865 4291.
