National Nursing Assistants Week 2010
33rd Annual National Nursing Assistants Week June 10-17, 2010
National Nursing Assistants Week is an opportunity, outside our
everyday work, to honor and thank our nursing assistants.
Your hardwork and dedication does not go unnoticed.
We are grateful for your compassion, quality, integrity,
commitment and dedication. The relationships you build
with others is a gift - we are thankful for all you do.
Only A CNA? © Dawn Mazzola
Who are you to refer to us, as “Only” a CNA?
We’re the one’s who wash and dress, our patients for
the day.
We’re the one’s who take the time, to listen to them
speak.
We listen about their lifetime, in a forty hour week.
We also give our hands to hold, when someone’s feeling scared.
It’s not easy being a patient, you’re never quite prepared.
We take the time to listen, by lending both our ears.
We listen to their worries, or how they’ve spent their years.
Our arms were made to reach, and even wrap around.
To give our patients hugs, when their feeling a little down.
We help our patients do the things, they used to do on their own.
Everybody needs some help, even when we’re grown.
So who are you to refer to us, as “only” a CNA?
We do our best to meet their needs, within our working day.
We chose to do this job, the job did not choose us.
We sympathize and empathize, compassion is a must.
We try to keep them comfortable, and free of any fear.
We sit along beside them, when that time is near.
We hold their hand, stroke their hair, just making sure they know.
Their not alone, an aide is there, it’s ok for them to go.
To all the CNA’s keep your head held high,we’re not “only” CNA’s.
WE’RE ANGEL’S IN DISGUISE!

We’re Listening!
Over the past year our newsletter has sporadically included
an easy-to-read, heart-felt story. It seems silly to gather
these stories from various sources when you, our nurses,
experience incredible life-changing events everyday. It is
our mission to begin publishing your experiences in both the
newsletter and on this page... with opportunity for others to
comment and relate to what you’re going through.
So please - compose one of your most recent, powerful days
in the field and send your story to carriek@prninc.com. Got
a few pictures handy so we can put a face with the name?
Don’t hesitate to pass those along as well. We’ll be certain to
take good care of your experience and share it for others to
learn from. You can expect to see it posted on our blog and
possibly in the next PRN Newsletter.
Our Family is Growing...

Recipe of the Month
Families with strong traditions always seem to have a “family recipe
collection.” Nurses PRN is no different. Our family recipes come from
nurses all over the country... enjoy and happy cooking!
Corn, Avocado, and Tomato Salad
submitted by Cindy H., Friend of PRN
Ingredients:
• 2 tablespoons olive oil
• 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
• 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
• 1/4 teaspoon salt
• 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
• 2 1/2 cups fresh corn kernels (from about 5 ears)
• 1 1/2 cups diced avocado (1/2-inch pieces)
• 1 pint cherry tomatoes, quartered
• 1/2 cup finely diced red onion
Directions:
In a large bowl, whisk together the olive oil, lime
juice, cilantro, salt, and pepper.
Add the corn, avocado, tomatoes, and onion and toss to mix. Serve at room
temperature. Serves 4 to 6. Tips: Choose ears of corn with bright green husks that are
tightly closed. The ends of the corn silk should be golden brown, not pale -- an indication
that the corn was picked too early.
